DANCING VAGABOND – held up for clear running between the 300 metres and 200 metres. HIDENA MAN – raced wide in early and middle stages of the event. Rounding the home-turn laid in under pressure. BARBARA OF SEVILLE – slow to begin. When questioned regarding tactics in the early stages rider P Romeo stated instructions were to not pressure the mare early and come with one run from the 600 metres. Stewards noted the explanation. HAVEN WHISPER – slow to begin, then raced wide for majority of the event. KINGFISHER BAY – in the presence of jockey advocate Mr G Smith, App M Savva was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully to the line. Stewards noted this was App Savva’s first race ride in 5 months after returning from injury. ZASTYLE – declared a late scratching at 1:29pm on Vet’s advice when kicked behind the barriers by another runner. On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on ZASTYLE refunded, with deductions of 9 cents win and 10 cents place to apply on face value of winning bets made prior to 1:29pm. SP’s are not subject. FIFTH STREET – at scale rider A Merritt reported the gelding raced greenly in the middle stages of the event. A post-race Vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality. RACE 4: C&G BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1100 MetresRALPH THE DRAGON – bumped at the start by another runner. OTOSHI – turned its head as the gates opened and lost ground. Leaving the shute near the 1000 metres shifted inside the line of the running rail and then improved quickly into a doubtful run to the inside of DASH THING when joining up to the course proper and had to be restrained to avoid heels. App M Cox was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Near the 700 metres had to be restrained from heels when the pace steadied. KATIKA – leaving the 200 metres obliged to shift ground to the inside to obtain clear running. Near the 100 metres was hampered when DASH THING shifted out under pressure JERALY – Stewards questioned App J Worley over tactics adopted in the race. App Worley stated after being bumped at the start JERALY was caught wide and when attempting to restrain the gelding to a position back in the field over-raced for some distance. She added that as a result of being caught wide from the 700 metres she allowed JERALY to stride forward 4 wide, and the gelding weakened over the concluding stages as a result. Stewards noted the explanation. DASH THING – shifted out under pressure near the 100 metres and hampered another runner. Rider A Badger was advised to exercise more care. VANCOUVER STAR – raced wide for the majority of the event. RACE 5: CLASS 2 HDCP 1650 Metres LUCKY THREE SEVENS – began awkwardly and lost ground. RED RAGGA – when questioned regarding below market performance rider J Hoopert stated the gelding travelled well in the lead to the 600 metres, however when placed under pressure at that point failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer B Robinson was of the opinion RED RAGGA had come to the end of its preparation and it was his intention to immediately spell the gelding. A post-race Vet examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery rate. EXCELLENT STAR – over-raced in the early stages when racing outside the leader.
