The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford S. Bogenhuber and the connections of 3rd placegetter BEHIND THE THISTLE the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage over the concluding stages to ascertain whether there were grounds on which to lodge an objection. After viewing the video, jockey Bogenhuber indicated that she did not wish to proceed with an objection.

CHAMPAGNE ROCK – Shifted out to improve passing the 800m and raced three wide without cover from the 700m. Stewards questioned apprentice S. Lacy regarding the tactics she adopted whereby after jumping from the inside barrier and taking up a trailing position initially behind OUR CLARKY and then VIDARR, she then elected, passing the 800m, to shift to a three wide position. Apprentice Lacy explained that her instructions were to settle the horse in the early stages, as it had a history of racing fiercely in its races, and obtain cover if possible.  She added that at that point she was of the view that her saddle had commence to shift forward and for this reason she made the decision to shift to a three wide position. Apprentice Lacy conceded that in hindsight she may have erred by shifting to a three wide position and by not making a better attempt to restrain near the 800m to trail VIDARR and improve into the race outside of the eventual winner BRIALKA LODGE. Bearing in mind the circumstances involved, stewards were of the opinion that this ride was not so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules.

VIDARR – Trainer D. Forster was fined $100 for the late declaration of M. McGillivray as rider. Bumped with another runner on jumping.
