WatsonStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski Race 1: XXXX GOLD QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M DARK ARCHER – Began awkwardly. EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN – Steadied away from the heels of STRYKING PRINCESS near the 200m. JELVISS – Slow to begin. HEADBELLS – Raced wide without cover throughout. STRYKING PRINCESS – Bumped by TWERK near the 200m. TWERK – Raced greenly throughout and shifted out near the 700m and again passing the 500m. Attempted to jump a section of the track near the 200m, blundered significantly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Following the incident involving TWERK near the 200m, stewards arranged for remedial works to be carried out on that section of the track. Stewards then met with senior riders who were satisfied with remedial works that were undertaken. Race 2: STAR LIQUOR BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 2450M Trainer M. Wilson was fined $100 for failing to declare R. Fradd as the rider of CUSHTY PRINCESS by the prescribed time. CRUZ DE VEGA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg post-race. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start. ARGO’S REVENGE – Began awkwardly. Race 3: IRON JACK CLASS 3 PLATE – 1650M ALBA GU BRATH – Overraced in the early stages. SHADAL – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn and was obliged to shift to the extreme outside to secure clear running over the final 250m. Notwithstanding today’s win, jockey R. Fradd reported upon returning to scale that the horse may not have appreciated today’s firm surface. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. TYCOON LAYLA – Overraced in the early stages. PRINCE OF ARRAN – Hung out rounding the home turn. Race 4: CANUNGRA HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M CHARLUA was a late scratching at 3:15 pm when stewards acceded to a request by trainer G. Cornish to scratch the mare following the upgrade of the track to FIRM 2 prior to Race 1 MOSSAMEANIE – Became very awkward in its action near the 500m, shifted out abruptly, almost dislodging apprentice M. Nakao, and lost ground. Trainer P. Duff’s stable representative was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. TABARD – Slow to begin and was then bumped shortly after the start. Apprentice S. Sweeney reported that her mount raced greenly and shifted in near the 750m. ZEPHETTO – Hampered by OYSTER near the 700m. Blundered passing the 200m. OYSTER – Laid in during the early and middle stages and near the 700m hampered ZEPHETTO. ZOLLIKON MISS – Overraced in the early and middle stages. FIRANDE – Slow to begin and was then bumped shortly after the start. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Following the incident involving MOSSAMEANIE near the 500m, stewards inspected that section of track with a delegation of senior riders. Following that inspection, both stewards and jockeys were satisfied with that section so as to continue with the remainder of the meeting. Race 5: BEAUDESERT RSL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M EXCELEBRAZIONE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped DANCING ON PARADE. Shifted out in an effort to improve and bumped INKBLOT on a number of occasions between the 400m and the 250m. Eased near the 100m when placed in restricted room between RIVER FLYER and INKBLOT, which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill, the rider of INKBLOT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. INKBLOT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Bumped on a number of occasions between the 400m and the 250m by EXCELEBRAZIONE, which shifted out in an effort to improve. M. Hellyer, the rider of EXCELEBRAZIONE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. DANCING ON PARADE – Began awkwardly and was bumped at the start. ALLE VONGOLE – Bumped at the start. RIVER FLYER – Bumped at the start. JOYFILY – Trainer S. Barr advised that the mare would lead today, should circumstances permit. The horse was ridden forward in the early stages before allowing ALLE VONGOLE to cross to the lead near the 800m. Had difficulty securing clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.Race 6: BEAUDESERT HOTEL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1300M BIG TREE – Steadied and lost ground near the 700m when tightened for room by SNUGGLE POT, which shifted in. E. Ljung, the rider of SNUGGLE POT, was reprimanded and advised to ensure she allows sufficient racing room to her inside. CORNROW – Bumped at the start. JOHNNY BE QUICK – Slow to begin. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. SNUGGLE POT – Obliged to steady near the 800m when UNO BEST (C. Bayliss) improved forward to the lead. Stewards will interview apprentice Bayliss at a later date regarding this incident and also his failure to seek permission to leave the course. UNO BEST – Bumped at the start. Ridden forward to the lead near the 800m when caught wide in the early stages. DAPPER ONE – Forced wider leaving the 700m and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event. JOBIWOOD – Held up from a point leaving the 500m until a point approaching the 50m. RED MAKO – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. IZZAH – Had to be steadied away from the heels of BIG TREE near the 700m when that runner lost ground. Race 7: RATHDOWNEY HOTEL RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 H’CAP – 1400M TEMUJIN’S MOON was a late scratching at 3:15 pm when stewards acceded to a request by trainer G. Cornish to scratch the mare following the upgrade of the track to FIRM 2 prior to Race 1. The start of the race was delayed when WHODUNNIT required resaddling in the enclosure. As F. Jervis failed to provide a medical clearance to ride after being stood down at Warwick on Saturday 19 January 2019, T. Harrison was substituted as the rider of LEICA CELEBRE. PETAIN – On returning to scale M. Cahill reported that the gelding did not appreciate today’s firm track. MORESKA SWORD – Slow to begin. LAVINGTON STAR – Slow to begin. ERRINGHI SPRING – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight and leaving the 100m had to be corrected by its rider and in doing so shifted back in abruptly.
