Stewards sought statements from Jockey J Lait and Trainer M Oates in relation to an incident which occurred in the jockeys’ room following racing at Longreach on Tuesday 7 November, 2017. Evidence was obtained from other relevant parties. Stewards adjourned this matter to obtain further evidence and may convene any inquiry at a later date.

Race 1: Cloncurry Mustering Co Maiden Plate- 1000 metres

AMBER TOPS- Jumped awkwardly outwards. Jockey Venkaya reported an injury to his left foot.

CLASSIC WIND- Slow to begin. Near the 250 metres, held up momentarily and shifted in to obtain clear running.

LADY BLUIRE- Fractious and reared in the barriers.

PART THE SEA- Raced wide throughout.

GYPSIES MISCHIEF- App J Brand was only able to claim 1 kilogram of her 1 ½ kg claim. App Brand was fined $200 (AR 92(12))

ABI WHALE- Began awkwardly.

NEVADA MO- Kicked in the enclosure. Veterinary inspection at the barriers cleared it to start. Slow to begin.

Race 2: Blackall IGA Ratings 0-60 Handicap- 1050 metre
GEE JAY- Approaching the 1000 metres, commenced to hang out and near the 800 metres, continued to hang out and shifted wider on the track, lost ground.

DRINKING COCKTAILS- Near 800 metres, hampered when another runner hung out.

Race 3: Forest Park Santa Gertrudis Open Plate - 1050 metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey P Romeo and a part-owner viewed the patrol film to ascertain if any grounds existed for an objection against the winner. Parties did not proceed and correct weight was declared.

DESTINED FOR WAR- Trainer’s representative was advised a $100 fine for late declaration of App J Brand. Near the 1000 metres, contacted by another runner and become unbalanced.

DRAGON FIRE- Jumped out and hampered MAN OF DESTINY which lost some ground. Contacted DESTINED FOR WAR near the 1000 metres. Near 200 metres, lay in behind DESTINED FOR WAR.

MAN OF DESTINY- Hampered at the start and lost some ground.

Race 4: Lambert Stud Class 6 Plate- 1200 metres

BLETCHY BOY- Prior to the declaration of correct weight, App J Brand made application to be declared a non-runner. It was established that the gelding had turned its head into the adjoining stall. When App Brand was attempting to correct her mount, the start was effected. As this was the mannerism of the horse, it was declared a runner.

KAKAKENNY- Stood flat-footed and missed the start.

MENACING- Knuckled on jumping.

CUBAN FURY- Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Wanted Contractors Ratings 0-50 Handicap- 1200 metres

HIDDEN ROAD- Jumped out at the start, inconvenienced GRAVITY FORCE which was contacted WESTBURY ROAD.

GRAVITY FORCE- Inconvenienced at the start. Near 250 metres, FASTPITCH shifted out and caused GRAVITY FORCE to be checked when tightened between FASTPITCH and HIDDEN ROAD which had shifted in when bumped by ZAHA DREAM. In the circumstances, App A Thompson was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

WESTBURY ROAD- Contacted at the start, slow to begin.

ZAHA DREAM- Raced wide throughout.

NAYTELLRHI WORLD- Little slow to begin.

Race 6: Swan Hill Cattle Co BM 65 Handicap- 1400 metres

POWER BUTTON- Hampered at the start when barrier partition rebounded.

GREEN LIGHT- Near 1000 metres, had to be eased and shifted out when NORTHERN MAGIC shifted in when not quite clear.

Race 7: Strathmore Blackall Cup Open Handicap- 1400 metres

BUSH CAVIAR- Declared a late scratching at 4.57pm on veterinary advice after it had caught its near hind leg in the barrier structure. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on BUSH CAVIAR be refunded and the following deductions apply on any winning bets.

41 cents for win bets
24 cents for place bets.

A post-race inspection revealed the gelding to be lame and treatment was administered. Stewards will follow up with trainer prior to deciding on any action to be taken.

CRYSTAL MATES- Slow to begin.
