Stewards permitted the following overweights:

The following runners which had not raced in an extended period of time underwent pre-race veterinary examinations and were passed fit to start; CHAMPAGNE TILLY, NARRABRI COCO, WINNING REFLECTION.
 
 
Scratchings:
 
 
Race 1: BOWEN TURF CLUB Maiden Plate 1000m
 
EXOGROOVE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers due to the presence of a minor amount of blood in the geldings mouth, was passed fit to start.
 
KEY TO THE ZOU – Jumped outwards hampering STILLWATER. Passing the 750m, shifted in when not fully clear of BLACK ‘N’ DEADLY who was obliged to steady to avoid heels. App. B. Johnson was issued a severe reprimand under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when not fully clear and was advised to show more care in similar circumstances.
 
TINY MOUNTAIN – Declared a late scratching at 9:31am after sustaining an injury in transport. As on-course betting had not yet commenced, no deductions are applicable. Trainer L. Gordy was advised that a veterinary certificate of clearance will be required before the gelding races or trials next.
 
SPRING’S GIFT – Bumped with WINNING REFLECTION on jumping.
 
STILLWATER – Hampered at the start when KEY TO THE ZOU shifted out.
 
BANKSOFTHEBARCOO – Permitted to ride the filly 1kg overweight as there was no other available rider. Stewards reprimanded jockey C. Lennon under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a minor laceration to the nearside hindleg.
 
BLACK ‘N’ DEADLY – Obliged to steady to avoid heels when KEY TO THE ZOU shifted in passing the 750m.
 
WINNING REFLECTION – Bumped with SPRING’S GIFT on jumping.
 
 
Race 2: FILBY’S MOTORS QTIS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000m
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately four minutes to secure an open gate that led onto the track.
 
CUDYADO – In the vicinity of the 950m, was obliged to ease as CHILENA rolled out marginally, as FLAMING ASTEROID simultaneously rolled in. In the vicinity of the 900m eased to avoid racing in restricted room.  
 
PITCHFORK – In the vicinity of the 900m was momentarily tightened on the rail when FLAMING ASTEROID was racing in restricted room while SHEEZ MARVELLOUS hung in.
 
HEISWOODY – Slow to begin.
 
SHEEZ MARVELLOUS – Hung in momentarily passing the 900m.
 
CHILENA – At the 950m rolled out marginally. At the 900m clipped the heels of FLAMING ASTEROID.
 
FLAMING ASTEROID – At the 950m rolled in momentarily. At the 900m was obliged to race in restricted room when SHEEZ MARVELLOUS hung in momentarily.
 
 
Race 3: PILCHER’S CONCRETE BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1280m
 
PLUCKERCARN – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
NEWITT – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
ZAKHEERA – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ELVIARE – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
CAT IN THE RAINE – Hung out throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
LIGHTHEADEDNESS – Following an incident in the parade ring pre-race, Trainer P. Cullen was fined the sum of $500, to be wholly suspended for a period of 6 months, under the provisions of AR228(b) in that he engaged in conduct detrimental to the image of racing by directing foul language towards another participant in the mounting yard.
 
RISK IN ROME – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
 
 
Race 4: HILLERY GROUP OPEN Handicap 1280m
 
GOLDEN ATHENA – Slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 1000m, brushed the running rail. Disappointed for clear running over the concluding stages and therefore was unable to fully test her mount to the line.
 
HIT SNOOZE – Very awkward to begin.
 
MISS BULITZ – Cast in the tie up stalls post-race, delaying the start of race 5. The horse was freed and treated by the veterinarian. Trainer D. Reynolds was advised that a veterinary certificate of clearance will be required prior to the mare racing or trialing next.
 
LEICA SPECIAL – Resaddled behind the barriers. Raced keenly early.
 
 
Race 5: BURDEKIN VETERINARY SERVICES BEN BOLT CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1470m
 
The start of this event was delayed by approximately 10 minutes to allow the veterinarian to attend to a horse in the tie-up stalls.
 
TEMPO (NZ) – Bumped with FORGIATO (NZ) at the 350m.
 
ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Slow to begin.
 
FORGIATO (NZ) – Laid in under pressure and bumped TEMPO (NZ) at the 350m.
 
STARHATTAN – Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
FOUR MILE LANE – Slow to begin. Failed to muster speed early.
