D’ORO HEART- Began awkwardly with its head in the air at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 6: WESTERN EXPORTERS COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/CHARLEVILLE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1625M STAMPEDE WARRIOR-A Bakos- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Raced at the rear of the field for some distance and began to improve into the race from the 1400m point where it obtained a handy position on the rail to the inside of PESHWA. Ran okay from that point until approximately the 800m when it began to weaken badly and drifted back towards the tail of the field where it ran for the remainder of the event. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to detect any abnormalities. Stewards inquired into the riding tactics by Jky A Bakos on the gelding. After hearing evidence from all parties and reviewing the surveillance video available on the day Stewards were of the opinion that due to the awkward start the horse which did lose significant ground early, and as the horse was of a large type and a big striding horse he took some time to gain momentum. Ms Bakos was positive in the ride and was able to move forward and obtain an improved position at approximately the 1400m and able to hold that spot to the inside of PESHWA. Then at approximately the 800m without any evidence of interference or the horse blundering it began to lose ground and despite the best efforts of the rider, the horse weakened badly and remained at the rear of the field for the remainder of the journey. Stewards were satisfied that Ms Bakos ride was acceptable and saw no reason to take any action against her regarding this matter. Stable representative Ms M Johnson gave an undertaking that should the horse become lame or suffer any medical issues post -race that the stable will notify Stewards as soon as practical. TYCOON ZIP- M Schrapel- Slow to begin and pulled out of the event by the rider after racing a short distance. On returning to scale Jky M Schrapel advised his horse made heavy contact with the barrier gates which failed to open with the remainder of the field. Jky Schrapel and Trainer Mr L Baker made application to stewards to have the horse declared a non-runner due to it being denied a fair start. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards heard submissions from all parties and after viewing the surveillance footage available to them on the day, Stewards acting under the provision of AR204(1)(b) declared TYCOON ZIP a non-runner due to the barriers not opening correctly and therefore denying the gelding a fair start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TYCOON ZIP be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply- Winner- 0c, Place 12c, 2nd Place- 13c and 3rd place 12c. Correct weight was subsequently declared on the numbers as semaphored by the judges. Stewards inquired into the riding tactics of Jky M Schrapel in relation to his decision to pull the gelding up after only travelling a short distance. Stewards accepted Jky Schrapel’s evidence in that, after the horse had made heavy contact with the barriers, he was concerned for the welfare of the horse believing that had he not pulled up the horse it may have gone amiss in running. As the trainer and the horse had left the course Stewards later contacted Trainer Mr L Baker who gave an undertaking that he would have the vet attend to the horse in coming days if required. He further advised the horse had pulled up well with no visible signs of injury as a result of the incident. JAKAMA- Raced wide for the majority of the event. MUIRON- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
