VOULAIT – Bumped at the start.

SHERWOOD PRINCE – Slow to begin.  Checked near the 100 metres and lost ground when racing between VOULAIT and TINDER, which shifted in when not clear.  S Apthorpe, rider of TINDER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in under riding when not clear of SHERWOOD PRINCE resulting in that horse being checked.  The licence of S Apthorpe to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 4th June 2022 up to and including midnight 12th June 2022.  In assessing penalty, Steward took into account S Apthorpe’s guilty plea and his record under this rule.

I’M JACKO – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.

RIGHTHERE RIGHTNOW – After being slow to begin was unable to muster speed in the early stages of the event.

KALIYA – Jumped in at the start and bumped VOULAIT.  A short distance after the start was checked and lost ground when FILLYRAE CYRUS laid in despite the efforts of its rider.  Laid out rounding the home turn and the majority of the home straight.

LOVESON – Over the concluding stages, raced in restricted room to the inside of I’M JACKO which had a tendency to shift in under pressure.

RAPID EAGLE – Hung in throughout the event and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.  Trainer G Richardson was advised the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

INNOCENT MAN – When asked to comment rider R Payne advised the gelding, which was having its second race start and was first up today since November 2021, was inclined to race greenly throughout and in her opinion would derive benefit from the race experience.  Stewards noted the explanation.

Hung out for the majority of the event and was unable to be tested by its rider in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.  Trainer G Schrader was advised the gelding must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

SPIRIT OF QUIN – Rider reported the gelding raced with its tongue over the bit for the majority of the race and, as a result, was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.  Taken wider rounding the home turn when PALENTIFUL hung out and then laid out under pressure in the home straight.

HOLY CHARIOT – Hampered at the start and lost ground when KIKI COCO jumped in.

MY GIRL SPIRIT – Slow to begin.  In the presence of senior rider H Richardson, Stewards questioned app S Champkin, rider of MY GIRL SPIRIT over tactics adopted in the middle stages of the event, particularly near the 900 metres where she elected to shift four-wide and continue to race wide for the remainder of the event.  S Champkin stated after being slow to begin, she pressured MY GIRL SPIRIT and was unable to settle the mare behind runners before electing to race wide over the final 900 metres.  After viewing the patrol footage, app Champkin agreed she erred in overly pressuring MY GIRL SPIRIT in the early stages and that she could have made a greater effort to maintain a three-wide trailing position from the 900 metres.  Bearing in mind app Champkin’s relative inexperience, Stewards took the matter no further, other than to refer her ride to the Racing Queensland Training Department.
