GENERAL
Gordonvale Turf Club Saturday 7th October 2017 Race 3
Jockey K Rockett was issued with a reprimand under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for excessive whip use prior to the 100m on his mount Dexterous. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the totality of Jockey Rockett’s whip use in running.
 
Townsville Turf Club Tuesday 7th November 2017 Race 2
Trainer Mr. L Wright advised Stewards that on returning to scale it was apparent that JACK LANCASTER had got its tongue over the bit in running and it is now his intention to again add a tongue tie to the gelding’s gear.
 
Race 1: ARCHER RIVER R’HOUSE/EXCHANGE HOTEL/COOKTOWN AUTO REPAIRS MAIDEN PLATE 1000m:
 
DAY OF THE FOX – Was buffeted between runners soon after jumping.
 
CELESTIAL SON – Lost ground after beginning awkwardly. Was restrained for a short distance when racing tight to the inside of runners near the 600m.
 
Race 2: NAMBAL RESOURCES BRACELET COOKTOWN LIGHTNING RATING BAND 0-60 HANDICAP 1000m:
 
KAP IT OFF- Jockey Ms. B Thomson reported the mare became momentarily unbalanced passing the 800m.
 
CRAIGLEA ALDI – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
Race 3:COOKTOWN HARDWARE/COOKTOWN RSL MEMORIAL CLUB OPEN HANDICAP 1290m:
 
BIG TOMEE – Began awkwardly.
 
MAN AROUND TOWN – Inclined to shift out under pressure down the running.
 
LOVER OF LIFE - Inclined to shift out under pressure down the running.
 
Race 4: COOKTOWN TYREPOWER/MUSGRAVE R’HOUSE/SEAVIEW MOTEL QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1290m:
 
IRISH HEART – Slowly away. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
AESOP – Slowly into stride. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
GENERAL SIDEREUS – Had to be restrained after improving onto heels near the 700m.
 
OUR RECIPE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BE WHY OH - Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
Race 5: BRACKENHURST CONTRACTING/POISON CREEK/COOKTOWN FOOD & ICE BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1400m:
 
DUNNY’S STAR – Raced wide throughout.
 
CENTREHALF FORWARD – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
MONSOON TWISTER - Raced wide rounding the home turn. Shifted out under pressure near the 100m.
 
Race 6: COOKTOWN BOWLS CLUB COOKTOWN CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1700m:
 
With the onset of threatening weather conditions, Stewards in consultation with Club Officials brought the starting time of this event forward to 4.50pm.
 
TURN UP THE VOLUME – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
SAID WRITTEN - Bumped with another runner after jumping awkwardly.
 
MUKADDAMAH SON – Was eased down near the 1400m and took no further competitive part in the event. The gelding was subsequently euthanased after being found have sustained a fracture of the near hind pastern.
 
Jockey Ms. B Thomson was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for excessive use of the whip (9 times) prior to the 100m on SLADE AMIGOS. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the totality of Jockey Thomson’s whip use in running.
 
Jockey W D’Avila will be interviewed at a later date in relation to his use of the whip on FRENCH SONG prior to the 100m.
 
When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance of FRENCH SONG Trainer Mr. J Manzelmann advised that the mare had been better suited over the longer distance of today’s race and with the benefit of increased fitness derived from recent racing had been able to take up her preferred position in the lead and outstay the opposition. Mr. Manzelmann’s summation of the performance was noted.
