App. Haley said that shortly after straightening he was racing behind that gelding and elected to come to its inside as he was of the belief that he would have caused interference to runners on his outside had he shifted ground. He added that after obtaining a run to the inside he was again held up on heels and went to the finish without being fully tested. Apprentice Haley agreed with Stewards that he had erred by not positioning his mount to the outside of HYDRIVE when there was sufficient room to do so and it would have enabled him an unimpeded run to the finish. Stewards took into account Apprentice Haley's relative inexperience.

She said that after beginning well she was able to take up a prominent position, however when another runner improved to her outside her mount commenced to pull hard. She added that, bearing in mind her instructions, she elected to remain racing to the inside and in the lead, however passing the 600 metres FRUMBOLI commenced to weaken. Trainer S. Potiris confirmed the instructions issued and added that in his opinion the gelding does not handle the Cairns track.
