QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB – FRIDAY 21 APRIL 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT (5) RAIL – 1 METRE ENTIRE COURSE PENETROMETER – 6.6 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. Kennedy GENERAL The following overweight permitted:Race 2, Ginasue – N. Day + 1kg Race 1: CAIRNS BULK MEATS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 950 Metres The start of this race was delayed due to the ambulance becoming bogged enroute to the barriers. THE BISHOP – Bumped on jumping. Laid out near the 450 metres hampering LITTLE LOVER. CASUAL – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn. LITTLE LOVER – After being slow to begin then shifted out bumping THE BISHOP.Momentarily hampered near the 450 metres. PUSS BOOTS – Began awkwardly. Race 2: THE LAUNDRY EXPRESS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1250 Metres The start of this race was delayed due to the incident prior to race one. BEAU EPOCH – Slow to begin. LORD PROPHET – Slow to begin. AMBER'S POWER – Shifted in at the start bumping LORD PROPHET. Raced greenly for the majority of the race and shifted in near the 900 metres hampering GINASUE and shifted wider when being corrected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to both inside cheeks and lost its off-hind plate during running. Trainer’s T & P Rowe were advised a warning would be placed on its racing manners. GINASUE – Hampered near the 900 metres.MR KOBO – Bumped approaching the winning post. TYCOON CINDY – Laid out under pressure approaching the winning post bumping MR KOBO. Race 3: COOPER RACING Maiden Handicap 950 Metres NORTHERN GIRL – Contacted the running rail entering the course proper. Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the home straight, laid in approaching the winning post and was checked. SUMBANK – Began awkwardly making heavy contact with its outside barrier gate. DISORDERLY – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room near the 200 metres and was restrained and went to the line without being fully tested. GREAT SURVEY – Slow to begin. AVENTINE HILL – Slow to begin. PROJECT PAPERCLIP – Momentarily laid out under pressure near the 200 metres. Lost its near fore plate during running. WONG WAY – Laid in, in the home straight proving difficult to ride. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. TORQUE SENSATION –Unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested. GULF OF LION – Raced wide for the majority of the race. DUYFKEN – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 4: BILL ANDERSON CONSTRUCTION BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 950 Metres KING JESTER – Threw its head in the air on jumping.HOKOLESQUA – After being slow to begin, shifted in bumping with SOLOMON. SOLOMON – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight. PLAGIARIZED – Shifted out under pressure near the 200 metres before being corrected. YARRALINDA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 5: CHEERS TO DAMO'S 50TH BIRTHDAY OPEN Handicap 1250 Metres HEIRBORN (NZ) – Was declared a late scratching at 1.18pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after shifting a plate in transit and puncturing its off-side front sole. As betting on this event had not commenced no deductions were applicable. Trainer S. Hoffman was advised she must provide a veterinary clearance of fitness prior to its next race or trial. NEMINGAH (NZ) – Slow to begin. INVESTOR – Over-raced in the early stages. GO GETABOY – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Race 6: EDMONTON BATTERY CENTRE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 Metres LORD OF LIGHT – Slow to begin. RED LIGHT ROXANNE – Slow to begin. GAELIC – Slow to begin. BRAZEN BRECCIA – Slow to begin. COOPER GEM – Made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly. Race 7: GARY RICHES BUILDERS QTIS BENCHMARK 58 Handicap1250 Metres GOLDEN ATHENA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Bounded in the air on jumping and lost ground. WINDS OF WAR – Slow to begin. COCHRANE – Jumped inwards at the start inconveniencing BORGOV. BORGOV – Inconvenienced on jumping. Race 8: BABINDA ELECTRICS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 950 Metres PRIVATE SECTOR – Declared a late scratching at 17.16pm when it refused to load. Connections were advised the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. SOUTHERN MISSILE – Slow to begin. BURNE JONES – Slow to begin. BELLA'S IN COMMAND – Shifted in near the 550 metres tightening the running of ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF which had to be restrained and lose ground. Rider I. Teh was severely reprimanded. Shifted out passing the 200 metres making contact with ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF which was unbalanced, also causing BELLA’S IN COMMAND to become unbalanced. ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF – Inconvenienced near the 550 metres and lost ground. Bumped near the 200 metres becoming unbalanced. FLYING ARTIST – Eased down over the concluding stages, Rider J. Stanley explained the gelding travelled well in the early stages however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and was disappointing. Trainer S. Massingham was of the opinion the horse will derive improvement from today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards considered an objection lodged by A. Layt the rider of ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF which dead heated for third against BELLA’S COMMAND being declared equal third on the grounds of interference near the 550 metres and again near the 200 metres. The stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF caused that runner to lose ground which was sufficient to justify the amendment of placings and as a consequence stewards upheld the objection and amended the placings to read:- 1ST place VELOURS BLEU 2nd place COURTING SARA 3rd place ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF4th place BELLA’S IN COMMAND STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees ReprimandsRace 8, Apprentice I.
