GENERAL

As G. Colless and L. Dittman were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the stewards summary sheet.

Race 1: Girls Day Out Raceday Maiden Plate – 2240m

JERUSALEM – Hampered at the start when tightened for room. Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from the heels of GRAND FRENZY on a number of occasions.

STAR OF MONACO – Hung out in the early stages. Stewards will interview trainer B. Baldwin regarding the performance of the horse in today’s race.

JAM WITH THE DUKE – Allowed to stride forward passing the 1400m to be positioned outside the leader approaching the 1000m.

BIGMORDRIVE – Stewards questioned Jockey L. Londregan regarding the riding tactics he adopted on the gelding, particularly the reason for him leaving a trailing position passing the 1300m, resulting in his mount racing 3 wide from that point. Jockey Londregan explained at that stage of the race the tempo slowed and when he was travelling behind LITTLE BOMBER, which was second-up from a spell over the 2240m of today’s race, he made the decision to shift wider on the track and improve forward. He further added as BIGMORDRIVE is one-paced he had specific instructions to make a run from the 1000m, so he did feel his decision to move 3 wide was detrimental to the horse’s chances. Stewards noted his explanation. Jockey L. Londregan, rider of the 4th placegetter, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race and was suspended for a period of 1 week, to commence at midnight, 21 February, and to expire at midnight, 28 February. In determining penalty, stewards were satisfied that that Jockey Londregan’s actions cost him 3rd placing in the race.

GRAND FRENZY – Pulled up lame in the near foreleg. Trainer V. McLennan was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

LITTLE BOMBER - Trainer G Teal advised that the horse which tailed off, would be barred from competing at Metro meetings until better form established.
Race 2: Sky Thoroughbred Central F&M H'cap – 1350m

WOOBINDA KEEPA – Jumped away awkwardly.

ARAZI ROSSA – Restrained soon after the start from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.

SHE’S A UNIT – Overraced in the early stages.

MULTIMEDIA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Rider L. Rolls dropped his whip over the concluding stages.

Race 3: WW W.BRC.Com.Au CG&E Maidenh H'cap – 1350m

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin.

REALLY REILLY – Jumped away awkwardly.

SHADOW MAGIC – Had to be eased near the 100m after initially being taken in by REALLY REILLY, was then steadied from the heels of FLITERO, which shifted out when not sufficiently clear. R. Fradd, rider of FLITERO, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to make greater effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in future.

WINNING SPIRIT – A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which compounded badly in the home straight, revealed an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer P Duff undertook to provide results of an endoscopic examination under exercise.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 3.

Race 4: #Sevensins QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1050m

Prior to the start of the race Lord Tscharke became fractious in the barriers and following an examination by the veterinary surgeon the gelding was declared a late scratching at 3.02 pm with the following deductions applicable.

6 cents in the dollar for the Win #7
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

SP bets are subject to deductions

DAM WONDERFUL – Overrraced in the early stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Became unbalanced when bumped near the 250m.

OBERLAND – Raced very ungenerously when being restrained from heels in the early stages.

SUITE MOVER – Had to be checked passing the 900m when tightened for room. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that HIGH COST shifted in and away from REDSSON, resulting in FALCHION being taken in slightly across the rightful running of SUITE MOVER. Stewards could not attribute this incident to the carelessness of any one rider and no further action was taken. Shifted in away from heels near the 700m and became unbalanced and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

DEAD SET JET – Raced 3 wide throughout. Inconvenienced near the 300m when momentarily tightened for room

Race 5: Gallopers Sports Club Class 3 H'cap – 1110m

LORD COCONUTS – Slow to begin.

GOOD JUDGE – Lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 6: Super Hero Raceday Class 5 H'cap – 1200m

DOCTOR DAVID – The start was delayed when the gelding became fractious in the barriers. Following a veterinary examination the gelding was cleared to start. Raced 3 wide throughout.

SILENT DUKE – Severely hampered at the start when bumped by Doctor David.

LUCKY BLACK – Slow to begin.

CHARGE MISSILE - Raced 3 wide without cover.

MY LITTLE FLICKA – Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
