Stewards agreed with jockey Byrne that, in their opinion, SATIRICAL LASS was not going to finish in the placings from inside the 100m, however he was nevertheless advised that he must ride his mounts out to the finish at all times. He stated that at this stage of the race he had expected KEMPELLY to stride forward and race outside of NOOGOORA BURR, which would have allowed him to race in a 3 wide position. He further added that trainer L. Birchley had advised him that BECKHAM was a free-rolling horse and does not appreciate being restrained. His explanation was noted.

LIBERATION – Hung in under pressure from the 300m and approaching the 100m made contact with COL ‘N’ LIL. Jockey B. Pengelly was advised that after making contact with that runner he should have refrained from riding with the whip and endeavour to further straighten his mount.
