Race 1: CLIPSAL AND SCHNEIDER PARTNER BUSINESS QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1050M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage apprentice T. Brooker, the rider of CRAZY POPS, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against HIDDEN LIGHT being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that HIDDEN LIGHT did shift out considerably over the final 200m at the same stage that CRAZY POPS also shifted out away from that runner. As stewards could not be satisfied that the shift from HIDDEN LIGHT had a material effect on the result of the race, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice B. Ainsworth, the rider of HIDDEN LIGHT, was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount sooner than she did on this occasion.

When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice R. Williams stated that she could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had a slow post-race recovery.
