SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Ipswich Turf Club Meeting 8/7/2016 – Race 6 – 1690m

Trainer K. Schweida reported that following the disappointing performance of ROCK SCENT the gelding will now be retired from racing.

RACE 1: GIDDY UP CLUB QTIS 2YO PLATE – 1350M

FAIRY DANCER – Jockey P. Hammersley was dislodged in the preliminary. The filly was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to run. Following the event the Club’s doctor advised that jockey Hammersley was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements due to a shoulder injury. Jockey Hammersley was subsequently replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

PERSISTENT SHADOW – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HUNDRED.

HUNDRED – Slow to begin and then was bumped by another runner. Approaching the 500m had to be steadied off heels when tightened for room. B. Pengelly the rider of PERSISTENT SHADOW was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

VENETIAN BEAUTY – Shifted in and bumped A TISKET A TASKET at the start. Near the 600m shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so forced NAVAJO PRINCE wider on the track.

OVERLAP – After passing the 1200m, when racing greenly, shifted in and had to be checked away from heels. In this incident the rider B. Stewart became unbalanced. Jockey Stewart reported at scale that in this incident his saddle shifted. Caught wide in the early stages and allowed to stride forward to take up the lead near the 700m.

BOLD HEART – Approaching the first turn commenced to pull hard and had to be restrained away from heels.

HOT LIPSTICK – Raced 3 wide throughout.

TAP ‘N’ GO – Raced 3 wide throughout.

NAVAJO PRINCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

SNOW FIELDS – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

RACE 2: HOG’S WE’D LOVE TO MEAT YOU OPEN H’CAP – 1200M

Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Byrne the rider of UPSTART PRIDE which finished second against DREAM CHOICE (J. Lloyd) being declared the winner on the grounds of jockey J. Lloyd breaching the whip Rule prior to the 100m. After taking evidence from both riders and trainer R. Heathcote stewards were not of the belief that jockey Lloyd’s extra use of the whip had had a bearing on the result of the race and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight. Jockey Lloyd was fined $300.00 for breaching the whip Rule. In assessing penalty stewards took into account that jockey Lloyd had not been penalised under this Rule this year.

FINAL CRESCENDO – At the request of the rider the gelding underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was subsequently cleared suitable to race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

QFIGHTER – Began awkwardly.

DIVINE SERVICE – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Near the 800m when overracing had to be steadied from the heels of MANA MANU, which shifted in when not fully clear. Near the 600m shifted out and raced 3 wide and was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

RACE 3: CANADIAN CLUB BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2200M

MR LEBROCK was declared a late scratching at 8.10 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.

TOUCH OF BELLA was declared a late scratching at 1.05 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after it was revealed the mare was suffering from pain in the near fore inside heel. Stewards ordered all bets placed on TOUCH OF BELLA prior to 1.05 p.m to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1.05 p.m.:-

6 cents in the dollar for the win - #1(GET ON THE GRANGE)
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner - #1 (GET ON THE GRANGE)
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #15 (VIV ESPANA)
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #10 (SNAPPER ROCKS)

GET ON THE GRANGE – Began awkwardly and bumped TYPING.

DENONINATOR – Approaching the 1350m shifted out and raced 3 wide. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, particularly after obtaining a trailing position in the early stages, App S. Eilbeck stated she elected to shift wider on the track near the 1400m. App Eilbeck explained that when the pace steadied after leaving the 1600m she elected to allow the gelding to stride forward without placing any pressure on her mount and raced in a 3 wide position until approaching the 800m and then allowed her mount to shift wider on the track as NAUTILUS, which she was following did not take her further into the race. App Eilbeck added that she had ridden DENONINATOR at its previous start in a similar manner. App Eilbeck stated that in hindsight with the step up in grade it may have been more advantageous to maintain her position behind NAUTILUS. Stewards noted her explanation.

TYPING – Raced 3 wide in the early stages and allowed to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1200m.

NAUTILUS – When the pace steadied after leaving the 1200m shifted out and raced without cover.

RACE 4: HOG’S FLAME GRILLED STEAK NMW H’CAP – 1050M

NAKANAI – Tightened for room at the start.

KLAMMER – Near the 700m commenced to overrace at the heels of CAPTAIN TANGO and shifted out resulting in ICE BUCKET being taken out. MOSS HARRY which was following was also inconvenienced and forced wider on the track and as a result raced wide for the remainder.

INVITATIONS – Held up for clear running until near the 200m.

LIMERICK MOON – Jockey T. Harrison reported at scale the gelding laid in under pressure in the home straight and over the concluding stages had to be steadied away from heels.

INNOCENT – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

RED DIAMONDS – Raced 3 wide throughout.

RACE 5: COCA COLA AMATIL CLASS3 PLATE - 1200M

HALLS CREEK – After working strongly in its preliminary was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to start. Slow to begin. Near the 1000m had to be steadied when being restrained to take up a position with cover. Then commenced to overrace for a short distance and when approaching the 800m again had to be steadied when overracing.

CODE NOIR – Began awkwardly.

LITTLE MISS ROCKER – Near the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of EDGE AWAY, which shifted in.

RACE 6: HOG’S 18 HOUR SLOW COOKED STEAKS OPEN H’CAP – 1630M

HARADA BAY – Began awkwardly. Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 200m. Shifted in under pressure after leaving the 100m.

BODEGA NEGRA – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.

LORDAG – Near the 1300m commenced to overrace and when being restrained shifted out and raced 3 wide for the remainder. When rounding the home turn shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped ADORABEEL.

BEWHATYOUWANNABE – Approaching the 200m attempted to improve to the outside of heels and made contact with another runner on a number of occasions. Taken in near the 100m when improving to the inside of HARADA BAY and as a result made contact with another runner.

ADORABEEL – App S. Eilbeck was questioned regarding the tactics adopted, particularly as to the reasons why she elected to improve when in a trailing position. App Eilbeck stated she allowed the gelding to stride forward in an attempt to position outside the leader but was unable to do so when HI SON held its position, which resulted in her racing in a 3 wide position. App Eilbeck was advised that in similar circumstances she would be expected to use more initiative than she had on this occasion.

RULING FORCE – Jockey G. Colless could offer no excuses for the disappointing performance, other than the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation.

RACE 7: CASCADE CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1350M

OLD HABITS – Slow to begin. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 50m had to be steadied again away from heels.

HOT AUGUSTA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 100m shifted out in behind heels to obtain clear running.

I AM BOSS – Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room.

ROMAN SECRET – Suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer T. Green was advised the gelding will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban and must gallop over 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to racing again.

PUNTA NORTE – Lost a near fore plate in running.

MADOTTI – Slow to begin.

FREQUENDLY – Shifted in at the start making contact with MISERY and then shifted out making heavy contact with ALWAYS SACRED. Trainer L. Ross was questioned regarding the improved performance. Mr Ross stated that whilst the filly raced wide at its previous start she was better suited today with the light weight and being third up from a spell which may have contributed to the filly’s improved performance.

BOURBON ROAD – Bumped heavily shortly after the start.

MISERY – Raced 3 wide without cover from the 700m onwards. Approaching the 200m shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running and made contact with another runner. App T. Brooker was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
