GENERAL

As B. Pengelly and apprentice E. Ljung were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: HOMELOANS OPTIMA QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice L. Tilley and the connections of 2nd placegetter CARRANGALL to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether there were grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner FIVE STUD POKER. After viewing the videos, no objection was lodged.

The start of this race was delayed when initially ROCK ON DESTINY was difficult to load and then further delayed when CARO CAVALLO refused to be loaded, resulting in the gelding ultimately being declared a late scratching at 12:07 pm. As a result of this, the field jumped approximately 6 minutes late. Trainers K. Anderson and B. Lockwood were advised that their respective horses must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CARO CAVALLO be refunded, with the following deductions, applicable to SP bets, to apply to successful wagers:

27 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
25 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
25 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.

Race 4: HOMELOANS ACCELERATE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1640M

BRAZEN MOSS – After being trapped three wide J. Byrne allowed his mount to race forward outside the leader where it commenced to overrace.

ARRABIATO – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden quieter from the wide alley. The horse was ridden accordingly. Inconvenienced near the 50m.

Race 6: HOMELOANS FLEXICHOICE CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1050M

Following his ride in Race 5, apprentice B. Appo was stood down by the Club doctor and as a result, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of PRIMED FOR DESTINY.

SAMMI JAIN – Inconvenienced approaching the first turn when bumped heavily and then carried out.

FIRE WITHIN – Bumped heavily when hanging in near the 50m.

PRIMED FOR DESTINY – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

RUSTIC PLAY – Shifted the near hind plate in running. Bled from both nostrils. The horse will be ineligible to compete for 3 months and before resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

Race 7: HOMELOANS ENVIZION BM75 H’CAP – 1200M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Byrne, the rider of HI I’M BACK, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against JOHNHRO being declared the winner, alleging interference inside the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that leaving the 100m HI I’M BACK was hanging in badly and proving difficult to ride out at the same time as JOHNHRO shifted out away from the rail, resulting in both horses brushing near the 50m. Whilst stewards conceded that JOHNHRO was the greater contributor to the two horses coming together, they were also of the view that HI I’M BACK did shift in marginally as a result of hanging. As the stewards could not attribute sole responsibility for the contact to the shift by JOHNHRO, jockey Byrne’s objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the numbers semaphored.

STORM FIGHTER – Slow into stride. Hampered slightly after the 200m.

HI I’M BACK – Hung in badly in the straight and proved difficult to ride out.

FAVORITE SHADOW – Hampered slightly after the 300m.
