Stewards considered an objection lodged by App R. Ride the rider of ROSIE POSIE which finished fourth against DESMONS PRIDE (App B. Thornton) being declared the winner alleging  interference for some distance after the 700m and again approaching the 200m. On the evidence it was established that after the 800m ROSIE POSIE obtained a one off position which resulted in DESMONS PRIDE being 3 wide. Then from a point near the 700m until near the 400m both horses made continuous contact due mainly to both horses jostling. As a result of this contact App B. Thornton (DESMONS PRIDE) lost the use of his right stirrup for a short distance just prior to straightening. They further considered that the interference near the 300m was as a result of STONECAST shifting out. As they were of the view that the jostling that occurred as a result of mutual contact between the 2 horses they determined that the protest be dismissed. Both riders were advised that the level of competitiveness, in the opinion of stewards, bordered on being improper.

At a subsequent inquiry App B. Thornton (DESMONS PRIDE) and App R. Ride (ROSIE POSIE) were both fined $200 for the manner in which they conducted themselves during the protest hearing.

DONT DENY US – Broke down near the 900m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained fractures to the sesamoid bones of the off fore fetlock. The gelding was subsequently euthanased  on humane grounds. Samples were taken from the gelding for analysis.

MOTION GRANTED – Held up rounding the home turn. Lost the near side plate in running. Trainer B. Baldwin reported that the horse was found to be sore in the near fore foot.

OF THE DAY – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

PUBLISHING POWER – When questioned regarding his riding App M. Murphy stated that the gelding was tardy to begin and jumped awkwardly. He added his instructions were to have the gelding wherever comfortable and keep up its momentum. He further added that after passing the 800m when close to the heels of LAND OFFICE he elected to improve to the outside of that runner and no sooner had he done that LIMERICK MOON, which was racing 3 wide, commenced to lose ground, which forced him to race 4 wide from the 600m. Trainer B. Currie confirmed the instructions however, was somewhat disappointed with the horses finishing effort.

LAND OFFICE – Overraced during the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to the off hind cannon.

PRIORITISE – Held up rounding the home turn and attempted to improve to the inside of IL MIO DESTINO where there was insufficient room and had to be checked near the 200m. App R. Ride the rider of SOFT TOP pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear resulting in DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE being checked. App Rides licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 28 January 2018 and expire midnight 5 February 2018.

SHARPAMAL – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

PINCH  MOUNTAIN – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

MISS KINDILAN – App T. Brooker reported that her mount travelled well until placed under pressure on straightening. App Brooker stated that after receiving a bump her mount became slightly uncoordinated and as she was concerned something may have been amiss she did not persist in riding it out.
