METIS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had bled for the first time during the event. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that the mare would now incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing again. Race 2: Dollys Dream QTIS 3YO Colts And Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m Trainer T. Gollan was fined $200 for the late declaration of R. Stewart as the rider of TOKORIKI LAD. After being saddled trainer R. Heathcote advised that LOVE AND ROCK IT was very fractious in the horse stall area and he was unable to fit the tongue tie, which is part of the geldings normal racing gear. Upon arrival at the barriers an attempt was made to again fit the tongue tie, which was again unsuccessful and announcements were made that LOVE AND ROCK IT would race without a tongue tie. PRINCE HUSSON – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in bumping another runner. HI FIVER – Hampered at the start when bumped by another runner. Near the 250m had to be checked to avoid the heels of SMARTY JACK. TOKORIKI LAD – Momentarily eased approaching the 600m. LOVE AND ROCK IT – Held up in the early part of the home straight. SMARTY JACK – Near the 250m was bumped heavily by LOVE AND ROCK IT, which shifted out to improve. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that for a number of strides LOVE AND ROCK IT was awkwardly placed at the heels of THE LAWYER and as a result shifted out to avoid that horses heels and in doing so made contact with SMARTY JACK. Stewards could not be satisfied that the actions of R. Fradd (LOVE AND ROCK IT) were careless under all the circumstances and did not take any further action. Race 4: Kodis Message Class 2 Plate – 1660m MAYBE EVEN YOU – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching and rounding the home turn was unable to obtain clear running. Stewards questioned trainer B. Currie regarding the seemingly improved performance. Mr Currie explained that in Toowoomba on 16 December 2017 the mare overraced badly and as a result weakened over the final stages. He added at its most recent start it blundered out of the barriers and as a result settled at the rear of the field. Mr Currie was of the view that the distance of todays race suited the mare as it has performed well in better class races over this distance previously. STORM GIRL – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to race outside the leader near the 1000m. When asked to comment on the performance jockey R. Stewart explained that after beginning awkwardly the mare never travelled comfortably and weakened in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. COULTHARD – Improved forward 3 wide from the 700m. NAMIB – After passing the 600m until straightening was held up and unable to improve. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 4.12 p.m.:- 0 cents in the dollar for the win - #17 (DREAM MASTER)2 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #17 (DREAM MASTER)4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #3 (GREGORY)4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #15 (CRUSHER) Trainer K. Anderson was advised the gelding must obtain 3 further barrier certificates, 2 of which must be obtained in an official trial. When determining the matter stewards took into account the poor record of ROCK ON DESTINY in regards to failing to load into the barriers. GREGORY – Slow to begin. RED HANDLE – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in. WILD AVA – Hampered at the start when tightened for room. Stewards questioned jockey R. Fradd regarding him being obliged to race 3 wide without cover throughout when beginning from barrier 4. He explained that it was his intention to settle in a rearward position and he was unable to obtain cover in the early stages as SONIC SWISH was overracing to his inside and rather than restrain behind that runner he elected to remain 3 wide. Stewards noted his explanation. SONIC SWISH - Hampered at the start when tightened for room. Overraced when being restrained from heels approaching and passing the 900m. DREAM MASTER – Shifted out under pressure over the final 150m. CRUSHER – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the off hind cannon. Race 6: Pink Lady Class 1 Plate – 2240m As App E. Ljung was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted App T. Brooker to be substituted as the rider of STUDLY ROOSTER. USENA – Trainer B. Fradd reported that his mount hung in under pressure over the final 200m. ISLAND SUNSET – Stood flatfooted and lost considerable ground. Trainer D. Murray was advised that a warning would be placed on the horses barrier manners. SCANDALS – From the 1200m shifted 3 wide and improved forward, racing in that position for the remainder of the event. SHOW A FLICK – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer P. Hill was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior the gelding racing again. Mr Hill indicated the gelding would more than likely be retired from racing. Race 7: Big Screen On The Green Fillies And Mares Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1350m OUR STORY – Slow to begin. Near the 350m shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of MADAM SHAZAM. Approaching the 200m had to be restrained when disappointed for clear running between MADAM SHAZAM and VERILY, which shifted out slightly. NORTHERN DIVINE – Overraced badly in the early stages. Passing the 1000m had to be restrained from the heels of TIME TO PLAY. Overraced and hung out during the race proving difficult to ride. Trainer T. Haydon was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners. MIAS GOT CLASS – Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight was held up for clear running. MADAM SHAZAM – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 350m and became unbalanced. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. TIME TO PLAY – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250m and 150m. VERILY – Cast a near hind plate in running. Race 8: Events At BRC Colts, Geldings And Entires Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1350m REAL GOOD – Inconvenienced near the 600m when tightened for room. App R. Ride the rider of DREAMSCOPE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 500m when insufficiently clear of REAL GOOD, resulting in that runner being tightened between DREAMSCOPE and STREET COMIC. As a result L. Cassidy (REAL GOOD) had to take hold of his mount and lose his rightful running. App Rides licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence at the expiration of a current suspension on 5 February 2018 and expire midnight 14 February 2018. BINARY – Stewards questioned jockey J. Taylor regarding the riding tactics adopted on BINARY, which led, which is in contrast to its normal racing pattern. Jockey Taylor explained that the gelding has trialled well recently when able to lead and for this reason he rode aggressively in the early stages to take up a forward position. Stewards will interview trainer K. Schweida regarding the matter. DREAMSCOPE – Stewards questioned App R. Ride regarding DREAMSCOPE racing 3 wide without cover in todays small field. App Ride advised that she was instructed to ride forward on the gelding from the outside barrier and attempt to settle outside the leader, which she anticipated to be FLAMIN MOGUL. App Ride further added that when it became apparent she would not have sufficient speed to clear REAL GOOD outside of the leader and rather than restrain to the rear of the field she was obliged to race 3 wide without cover. Stewards noted her explanation. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees FinesRace 2. T. Gollan – Trainer – Late rider - $200 – LR67SuspensionsRace 8. R.
