Race 1: THE MISSION @ AQUIS FARM QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1630M

Stewards questioned trainer S. Morrisey regarding the scratching of LUCAP from today’s race, in which Mr Morrisey also had another runner, PUMPS. Mr Morrisey explained that he had planned to start LUCAP in this race, however since the horse worked with PUMPS on Tuesday morning, it has left feed and as a result he made the decision to scratch the horse out of today’s race and leave it in Race 8 at the Gold Coast. Mr Morrisey added that this morning LUCAP had left a significant amount of feed, however displayed no other symptoms of concern, which resulted in him withdrawing it from that race as well. Stewards accepted his explanation.

PUMPS – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness in the near fore foot. Trainer S. Morrisey indicated that the horse will now be sent for a spell.

TATCEE – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

TRUSTY LAD – When asked to comment on the improved performance of TRUSTY LAD as compared to its most recent start, trainer M. Kropp explained that the colt performed well at its first start at Toowoomba and made significant ground in the final stages of the race. He added that at its most previous start TRUSTY LAD may not have been suited racing inside horses and made its final run in the home straight on the inside which he felt was inferior ground. Mr Kropp added that today’s field was of a lesser grade than the race at Doomben on 21 July. His explanation was noted.

Race 2: DIVERSITY DASH BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1110M

Trainer B. Andrew was fined $200 for the late declaration of apprentice J. Murphy as the rider of GOLDEN SHOES.

J. Lloyd was dislodged from LINLITHGOW in the preliminary. LINLITHGOW galloped a short distance before being recaptured, was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to race. J. Lloyd was uninjured in the incident and was able to fulfil his engagement.

HIGH COST – Overraced in the early stages and then hung out making the turn leaving the 900m and raced three wide without cover from that point.

GOLDEN SHOES – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

LAST ARMAGEDDON – B. Stewart reported that his mount did not travel at any stage of the event, did not feel comfortable amongst horses and was very disappointing. He added that he could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

LICITRA – Blundered soon after the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

B. Appo was reprimanded for arriving late on course to fulfil his engagement.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance and must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

ON THE SPOT – Had to be checked from heels near the 1000m.

EL SHADAY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SILIQUA – Lost the off fore plate in running.

ZENDAYE – Had to be checked severely after passing the 1000m to avoid the heels of TVERSKY. D. Smith, the rider of TVERSKY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ZENDAYE. D. Smith’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 16 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 5 August and expire at midnight on Tuesday 21 August 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Smith’s high degree of carelessness.
