The start of this race was delayed when GUNTANTES and SOUTHERN SWING required resaddling behind the barriers.
GUNTANTES – Bumped making the turn into the straight.
DON’T WAIVER – Jumped away awkwardly and then lost ground after being buffeted between SOUTHERN SWING, which jumped outwards, and ALIGNMENT, which shifted inwards slightly. Held up for a short distance approaching the 400m. Held up and had to be taken inwards near the 100m to obtain clear running when SOUTHERN SWING shifted out.
ALIGNMENT – Jumped away awkwardly. Proved very difficult to settle in the early stages and shifted outwards abruptly near the 1400m.

MAGIC WU – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.
TYCOON FLYER – Raced greenly passing the 600m.
V J DAY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer K. Fogden advised that today the gelding was able to obtain a position behind the lead with cover and had improved following two runs back from a spell, noting that the addition of blinkers may also have been a contributing factor.
LIGHT UP THE ROOM – After jumping from a wide barrier, was restrained and took up a rearward position. Raced wide from the 600m.
Race 5: TATTERSALL’S MEMBERS RATINGS BAND 0 – 80 H'CAP – 1350M
DREAMREACHER – Held up making the turn into the straight. Made contact with STELLA OMBRA near the 350m when attempting to get clear running and thereafter was unable to secure clear running until the 250m when held up on the heels of RICH AFFAIR.

MASLOW – Connections advised that from the wide barrier the horse would be ridden in a rearward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. Held up and unable to improve from the 600m until the 400m. Steadied inwards across the heels of SPRING CREEK near the 350m to obtain clear running.
Race 6: WINNING EDGE NO MORE THAN ONE METRO WIN H'CAP – 1110M

READY TO PROPHET – Raced wide throughout.
SKATE TO PARIS – Had to be steadied outwards near the 150m when making ground and over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running.
SPIRIT’S CHOICE – When questioned regarding his riding of the horse, M. McGillivray stated that it was the intention to lead as it is a free-running horse, however, he had to work hard in the early stages when EPIC GIRL went forward to its inside. Thereafter, after obtaining the lead, his mount was inclined to lay inwards and as such he did not overly restrain the horse as SPIRIT’S CHOICE, when steadied, struck the running rail on a couple of occasions. He added that it was not his intention to work as hard early, however, due to the circumstances he may have gone quicker than he had initially wanted. Again, when he attempted to steady his mount near the 600m, it laid in and struck the running rail. Trainer M. Kropp confirmed the instructions were to lead as this generally suited the horse’s high cruising speed. Stewards noted the explanation.
AEECEE TONG DE – Raced three wide throughout.
EPIC GIRL – Shifted out after striking the running rail near the 600m.
SOLAR STAR – Near the 600m had to be checked outwards away from the heels of JADENTOM, which shifted out and away from EPIC GIRL, which in turn shifted out after striking the running rail. Eased down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer T. Gollan advised that he would have the horse examined by his veterinary surgeon in coming days and report to stewards anything that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. Subsequently, Mr Gollan further advised that the horse had undergone an endoscopic examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.
CHURNING – Attempted to buck on a number of occasions shortly after the start, thereby losing considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that the horse would require a veterinary clearance and must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.
