GENERAL
Following track downgrades, stewards acceded to requests by trainers to scratch the following horses:
Race 1. AZZAREACH – 9:42 am
Race 3. RIGHT OR WRONG – 12:12 pm
Race 5. DISSOLUTION – 1:16 pm
Race 6. TAKES TIME – 2:27 pm
Race 7. KALIK – 8:50 am
Race 8. NOTHINGFORTHEPRESS – 2:27 pm
Race 8. THE HAND – 9:23 am
Race 9. EURO BELLE – 10:03 am
Race 9. ROMAN AUREUS – 3:17 pm
As R. Maloney was stood down by the Club doctor and as J. Orman was to be overweight in Races 6 and 7, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. J. Orman was fined $150 for each infringement.
Race 1: WELCOME BACK TO BRC QTIS 2-Y-O C&G H’CAP – 1200M
ACROBATIC – M. Du Plessis reported that his mount pulled hard during the race, which had an effect on its capacity to finish the race off competitively. He added that it is his view that the horse may have come to the end of its current preparation.
JUST A PATSY – Slow to begin. D. Smith reported that his mount failed to handle the track conditions and was reluctant to stretch out throughout.
CRIMINAL DEFENCE – Slow into stride. Laid inwards in the early part of the straight.
MASTER RED – Raced wide from the 600m. Laid inwards in the straight.
Race 2: QUINCY QTIS 2-Y-O FILLIES H’CAP – 1200M
KISUKANO – Difficult to load, delaying the start. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the filly prior to it racing again.
BELLISSIMI AMICI – Slow to begin and then dipped shortly after the start.
TOOROOLOO – Momentarily held up near the 300m and had to be taken inwards to obtain clear running.
FLEET DOVE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
PATTY’S FORTUNE – Steadied off the heels of KISUKANO approaching the 800m. J. Orman reported that the filly failed to handle the track conditions.
Race 3: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY OPEN H’CAP – 1600M
The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event.
RIGHT OR WRONG was a late scratching at 12:12 pm due to the track downgrade.
GRESHAM – R. Maloney reported that the gelding did not handle the track conditions.
MORENDI – Hung in in the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.
PRINCE OF TIE – Had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight.
OUTRAGED – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
Race 4: XXXX DRY CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200M
DENARIUS – Raced three wide throughout. Laid out over the concluding stages.
LEYROYTHECONQUEROR – Momentarily held up making the turn into the straight.
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL BENCHMARK 78 H’CAP – 2000M
SPEAKING BAD – Jumped away awkwardly and was crowded on jumping.
IPSO NEM FELEK – Raced keenly in the early stages.
Race 6: KIRIN BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP – 1050M
TAKES TIME was a late scratching at 2:27 pm following a downgrade of the track. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on TAKES TIME be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:27 pm:
4 cents in the dollar for the win #12
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #9
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4
JARDIN ROUGE – Slow into stride. Taken inwards near the 150m to obtain clear running.
ONE STRYKE – Had a tendency to overrace for a short distance near the 800m.
TULLIO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration inside the off fore cannon.
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to HEAVY 10.
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3-Y-O H’CAP – 1200M
BOLD STYLE – Lost its position in the middle stages whilst resenting kickback. Taken outwards near the 300m to obtain clear running.
GOLLY HUTT – Slow to begin.
MAOZI – Checked shortly after passing the 600m when inconvenienced by BOLD STYLE, which shifted outwards.
BOLD EOS – Had to be continuously restrained near the 700m when awkwardly placed on the heels of SAY HAYA.
BOLD HUNTER – Had to be restrained when awkwardly placed on the heels of SNOWZONE near the 650m.
GETYOURGREYON – Laid inwards under pressure in the straight.
Following this event a number of riders expressed concerns regarding poor visibility during the race, and stewards considered these submissions, along with the expectation of further rainfall, and as a result called off Races 8 and 9.
