RAIL - TRUE POSITION

Trainer Les Ross reported that DANCE SALLY DANCE would be spelled after performing below expectations in race 5, the Golden Downs/Golden Shores Super QRIS Added Stakes H'cap.
GENERAL: As Z. Purton was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved: Race 2. DON'T MISS - D. Tanti; Race 6. PRINCE OF WAR - B. Stewart; Race 7. SCENIC PEAK - J. Stanley; Race 8. FRENCH GENTLEMAN - B. Prebble.
RACE 1: RSL GOLDEN GIRL H'CAP - 1800M.
REPUBLIC was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
A swab sample was taken from the unplaced BAY DUKE.
RACE 2: GREENSLOPES EMERGENY CENTRE H'CAP - 1600M.
CUMBRIA and DON'T MISS were slow to begin.
HENRY GILBERT made the 600m. crossing awkwardly.
When questioned, S. King stated that MON MEKKI was off the bit as early as the 1000m. and approaching the 600m. he was forced to pull the whip on the filly in an endeavor to put her into the race. A veterinary examination of MON MEKKI subsequent to the event revealed the filly to be suffering from heart arythmia. Trainer G. Ryan was advised to have an ECG test performed on MON MEKKI and that the filly would also have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trail prior to its next race start. A swab sample was taken from MON MEKKI.
RACE 3: NEW FARM CLINIC SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Duffy, rider of the 3rd placegetter, SMART CHARIOT, against POETIC HEIGHTS being declared the winner, alleging interference inside the 100m.. Whilst it was established that POETIC HEIGHTS had drifted out slightly under pressure, stewards were also satisfied that SMART CHARIOT was attempting a run between POETIC HEIGHTS and RUN JUST RUN where there was doubtful room. Given the slight inconvenience suffered by SMART CHARIOT, stewards dismissed the objection and confirmed the Judge's placings.
When SMART CHARIOT shifted out to obtain clear running, RUN JUST RUN was hampered when cramped for room between that runner and SYDANEE.
TOPPA hung out in the middle stages.
M. Gatt, rider of MARBINE, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the 800m., resulting in SYDANEE and SMART CHARIOT being placed in restricted room.
After the running of this race, the track rating was upgraded to dead.
RACE 4: RSL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
FLASHING JACK, which was kicked on the off fore arm behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
MAIZCAY MAGIC and MIKAN was slow to begin.
After gaining ground to the inside of LION'S REVENGE, MIKAN had to be steadied at the 1100m. when LION'S REVENGE shifted in. LION'S REVENGE commenced to overrace soon afterwards and bumped SURRENDERS at the 1000m..
When LION'S REVENGE attempted to improve around the tiring CONNIE'S PROSPECT on the home turn, LION'S REVENGE made contact with PLIANCY, which in turn resulted in PLIANCY being tightened on to the hind quarters of SURRENDERS. MIKAN, which was following, shifted out to avoid the heels of PLIANCY, forcing FLASHING JACK wider on the track. Whilst it was noted that LION'S REVENGE had tended to race greenly, B. Stanley, rider of that colt, was nonetheless urged to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
In the early stages of the straight, CAWDOR SUNSET was held up for clear running.
MESSIAEN hung out during the event.
RACE 5: RAMSAY HEALTH CARE H'CAP - 1800M.
Approaching the 300m., FETES GALANTES had to be checked when disappointed for a run between SOCIETY BEAU, which shifted in slightly, and MALTESE BEAUTY, which commenced to lose ground quickly.
A veterinary examination of WILD TOSS, which tailed off during the event, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: GREENSLOPES PRIVATE HOSPITAL QUEENSLAND GUINEAS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1600M.
BOSPORUS, which struck its off hip on the enclosure gate, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
DISTINCTLY SECRET was slow to begin.
At the start, ECSTASY jumped in and DUTCH HARRY jumped out, resulting in TRAIL OF GOLD and REGENT STREET being tightened for room.
Approaching the 1200m., MISSISSIPPI RIVER lost ground when tightened for room by GABFEST. SUPER IMPRINT, which was following, had to be checked. DISTINCTLY SECRET and I ROCK MY WORLD, which were following, were both hampered as a consequence. It was established that nearing the 1300m., GALROOF shifted in and placed some pressure on GABFEST, and a short distance later was obliged to shift in further when ACADEME also shifted ground when not quite clear. Given the circumstances, stewards deemed that no one rider was fully culpable, however G. Duffy, rider of ACADEME, and B. Prebble, rider of GALROOF, were both cautioned and urged to exercise more care.
MISSISSIPPI RIVER was also reluctant to hold its position inside DEUXIEME at the 1000m..
DAMASCHINO and ECSTASY were forced to race wide in the middle stages.
DUTCH HARRY commenced to hang out at the 800m. and ran wide making the home turn, forcing DAMASCHINO even wider on the track.
Rounding the home turn, GABFEST and DEUXIEME made contact for some distance. This resulted in GABFEST becoming unbalanced and shifted out, taking DEUXIEME across the heels of GALROOF. TELLSON, which was racing to the outside of DEUXIEME, was obliged to shift out abruptly to avoid that runner.
Inside the 200m., the tiring STORM ZERO was momentarily tightened for room between REGENT STREET, which shifted out slightly to obtain clear running, and GABFEST, which was taken in by DEUXIEME. D. Tanti, rider of DEUXIEME, was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to keep his mounts on a true course.
PRINCE OF WAR made contact with DISTINCTLY SECRET when shifting out to obtain clear running at the 150m.. A short distance later, DISTINCTLY SECRET was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of B. Stewart, rider of PRINCE OF WAR.
RACE 7: SIR BYRNE HART STAKES - 1400M.
Approaching the 1200m., MAKE MINE MAGIC shifted out, hampering KENCONCARNE.
J. Stanley, rider of SCENIC PEAK, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 1000m. he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of BAILS, resulting in severe crowding to BAILS, KENCONCARNE and MAKE MINE MAGIC. In this incident, KENCONCARNE lost its position. J. Stanley was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight, Wednesday, 8 May, and to conclude at midnight, 19 May 2002.
From the entrance to the straight until nearing the 100m., KINGSGATE was badly held up for clear running.
MAKE MINE MAGIC also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of GOLD CLASS, S. King stated that the gelding travelled strongly in the lead, however failed to quicken when placed under pressure at the top of the straight. He was unable to offer any excuses for GOLD CLASS. Trainer G. Ryan stated that although the gelding had previously raced well on a dead track, he felt that GOLD CLASS'S performance may have been affected by racing too keenly in today's damp conditions. A veterinary examination of GOLD CLASS failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from GOLD CLASS. Trainer G. Ryan undertook to report back to stewards if any abnormality became apparent with GOLD CLASS.
RACE 8: JILL BURGESS H'CAP - 1400M.
After being slow to begin, EVENPSALM raced wide in the middle stages.
L. Morrison, rider of the 3rd placegetter, AIR WAR, accidentally dropped her whip approaching the 300m.. B. Stewart, rider of I REALISE, also lost his whip at the 100m..
M. Lister, rider of TONTORE, was reprimanded for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
ALL WINNERS, BAY DUKE GOLD CLASS AND MON MEKKI WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
