WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - 3M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As a consequence of being overweight, S. Katsidis was obliged to forfeit 3 mounts during the course of the meeting. He was replaced as follows: Race 2. CAP JUAN - M. Rodd; Race 4. RUN JUST RUN - S. Baster; Race 7. FOURADEE - B. Prebble. S. Katsidis was fined the sum of $500.

RACE 1: CANTERBURY BELLE H'CAP - 1200M.

NORTHERN FRIENDS jumped inwards at the start, inconveniencing IMPULSIVE LASS and EXPELLED.

Passing the 300m., MOOKATAN was tightened for room between MISS THUNDERSTOOD and OPAL RAINBOW, which was taken out by VIVID MISS.

LADY ISABELLA had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

BLUE CELESTE was obliged to race wide during the event.

When questioned, D. Gauci stated that EXPELLED was most disappointing. He advised that throughout the event the filly appeared reluctant to stretch out, which gave the impression that she did not appreciate racing inside other runners.

A veterinary examination of EXPELLED failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

As K. Pope was to be overweight, M. Williamson was substituted as the rider of GORDIAN KNOT. K. Pope was fined $100.

On jumping away, GORDIAN KNOT was severely hampered when tightened for room between COSTELLO, which jumped outwards abruptly, and PRINCE SAMURAI, which shifted in after making contact with MALTESE LINER. As a consequence of the contact with PRINCE SUMARAI, MALTESE LINER shifted out and brushed the hind quarters of MESSIAEN and as a result lost ground.

At the 800m., DARBY had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by TAHITIAN STAR, which in turn was taken in by JAZZ FUND

At the 500m., APPERTAIN shifted in momentarily tightening PROUDLY AGRO on to the running rail.

RACE 3: ROUGH HABIT H'CAP - 1500M.

Near the 1400m., DUMBFOUNDED had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MARBINE, which shifted in. As a consequence, DUMBFOUNDED was also taken in on to LAGUSTA, which was inconvenienced. K. McEvoy, rider of MARBINE, was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to provide at least 2 lengths clearance when shifting ground.

S. Katsidis, rider of FINNIGAN, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 1100m., when not clear of LUGUSTA, which when racing ungenerously, shifted in, causing OUR SMALL TOWN BOY to be steadied, and VALETTA FLYER to be tightened on the running rail. LANDILLAC, which was following, was also had to be steadied.

RACE 4: DIVIDE AND RULE H'CAP - 1000M.

Soon after the start, GAINLY LAD lost ground when cramped for room between AXOLOTI and SEQUALITY.

S. King, rider of DESCARTES, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m. he directed his mount out around the heels of SUNDIAL, resulting in AXOLOTI, having to be checked. S. King was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 June, and to expire at midnight, 23 June 2002.

For some distance near the 200m., WINNING BLIND was held up for clear running.

Close to the finish line, CENTURY'S GIFT became awkward after making contact with PAST BLAST.

RACE 5: JAPAN TROPHY - 2218M.

As Z. Purton was to declare half a kilogram overweight on ALMIGHTY ALLIANCE, stewards permitted fellow apprentice M. Dracos to be substituted as the rider of that gelding.

When questioned, B. York stated that ALTIERO was off the bit in the middle stages of the event, and in the straight he did not test the mare as he felt something was amiss. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that ALTIERO was lame in the near hind leg. A swab sample was taken from ALTIERO. Trainer G. Waterhouse advised that in light of the performance today she would trial ALTIERO and have a thorough veterinary appraisal done on the mare before a decision is made whether to continue with its current preparation.

RACE 6: THE QUEENSLAND DERBY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 2400M.

Soon after the start, DUTCH HARRY blundered badly.

D. Oliver, rider of GALROOF, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not clear of REPUBLIC, causing that horse some inconvenience and in turn causing a tightening CABIN FEVER and DISTINCTLY SECRET.

At the winning post on the first occasion when tightened to a minor degree, COUNTY TYRONE shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail.

Near the 1600m., MY SPECIAL SCORPIO was hampered by GALROOF, which shifted in momentarily.

DISTINCTLY SECRET was forced extremely wide rounding the home turn.

Soon after straightening, THE BANDIT was hampered when cramped for room between DISTINCTLY SECRET and QUAYS, which shifted out.

RACE 7: AAMI STRADBROKE - 1400M.

On jumping away, MAITLAND GOLD and SUZY GREY lost ground when tightened for room between DIAMOND DANE and CITICHY, which jumped inwards at the start.

P. Hammersley, rider of PRINCES CLANG, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift approaching the 1000m. when not clear of FOUARDEE, which in turn shifted in, cramping DIAMOND DANE on to CARAEL BOY. As a consequence, CARAEL BOY, which had tended to overrace, had to be restrained by its rider and lost ground. When CARAEL BOY lost ground, CITICHY had to be checked when SCENIC PEAK shifted in off the heels of CARAEL BOY, causing some inconvenience to FALVELON.

Passing the 700m., PERNOD lost ground when tightened for room between KINGSGATE and CARAEL BOY, which shifted out when racing fiercely at the heels of DEAMOND DANE.

MAKE MINE MAGIC had to be checked off the heels of LORD ESSEX making the 600m. crossing.

After being held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, MAKE MINE MAGIC was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of S. Baster, rider of LIBIDINIOUS, when taking a narrow run to the inside of that runner at the 150m..

Approaching the 100m., MAKE MINE MAGIC was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of S. Baster, rider of LIBIDINIOUS.

SCENIC PEAK and CARAEL BOY also experienced some difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

Over the final 100m., CARAEL BOY was unable to obtain clear running.

Approaching the finish line, LIBIDINOUS was tightened for room between MAKE MINE MAGIC, which was taken out slightly by KING LOTTO, and PRINCESS CLANG, which was taken in by FOUARDEE, which in turn was taken in by KINGSGATE. B. York, rider of KINGSGATE, was cautioned for failing to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

KINGSGATE was obliged to race wide during the event.

A veterinary examination of MAKE MINE MAGIC revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the outside of the near hind fetlock.

RACE 8: MITTY'S WORLD OF SPORTS H'CAP - 1200M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Schofield, rider of the second placegetter, WAGSTAFFE, against A DEENA being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m.. The objection was dismissed as stewards were of the view that WAGSTAFFE had contributed to its own loss of ground after shifting in under pressure and making contact with JUST AWE.

PETIT POUCHET and BAR ECLIPSE came together at the start.

PRINCE STARLIGHT jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 600m. crossing, EMPYREAN commenced to race fiercely and had to be checked off the heels of THREATNER. PTOLEMAIC, which was racing outside of EMPYREAN, also suffered some hampering, as did PRINCE STARLIGHT, which was trailing.

Jockeys B. Pengelly and G. Schofield both pleaded guilty to charges of careless riding, in that by their actions they contributed to a severe tightening to JUST AWE inside the final 100m.. It was established that B. Pengelly had allowed A DEENA to shift out under pressure, and that simultaneously G. Schofield had allowed WAGSTAFFE to shift under pressure, which resulted in both of those runners making contact with JUST AWE, causing B. York, rider of JUST AWE, having to severely check that gelding. B. Pengally and G. Schofield were both suspended for periods of 8 meetings, with the terms of suspension in each instance to commence at midnight, Thursday, 13 June, with the penalty to expire at midnight, Wednesday, 26 June 2002.

In this incident, WAGSTAFFE, after contacting JUST AWE, shifted out abruptly, hampering BAR ECLIPSE and in turn causing THREATNER to be checked.

ALL WINNERS AND ALTIERO WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
