GENERAL
On Thursday and Friday all runners engaged in the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap were inspected by Racing Queensland veterinary surgeons and passed fit to compete.
Race 1: JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM LANCASTER STAKES – 1200M
ROYAL TITHE – Shifted out to improve at the entrance to the straight and made contact with another runner.
TWO SHOES – Bumped heavily on jumping. Held up from the entrance to the straight until the 250m.
GREYT START – Briefly tightened for room when weakening inside the 200m.
NONPAREIL – Bumped on the home turn.
REAL CUTE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
Race 2: THE WAYNE WILSON – 1600M
VOLKSTOK'N'BARRELL – V. Colgan reported that his mount, under its big weight, was unable to sprint when the pace quickened approaching the home turn and did not finish the race of as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again.
AMOVATIO – Crowded on jumping.
HOPFGARTEN – The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was galloped on on the off hind leg.
WORTHY CAUSE – Shifted in when improving near the 100m and made contact with the hind quarters of another runner and as a result became unbalanced.
HI WORLD – Raced three wide without cover.
MALICE – Bumped near the 100m.
BEWHATYOUWANNABE – Became unbalanced when bumped near the 500m.
AKAVOROUN – Crowded on jumping.
FELTRE – Raced four wide without cover.
HI SON – Shifted out and allowed to stride forward when overracing and eventually crossed to the lead at the 1000m.
LORDAG – Steadied when overracing in the middle stages.
Race 3: DANE RIPPER STAKES – 1400M
AMICUS – Had to be checked near the 1100m when taken inwards onto another runner. D. Oliver, the rider of ONEMOREZETA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of M POPPETTE, which was taken in on to GHISONI, which was taken in on to AMICUS. D. Oliver's licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 13 June and expire at midnight on Friday, 24 June 2016.
ONEMOREZETA – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the home turn.
GHISONI – Stood awkwardly in the gates and was slow to begin. Taken in on to another runner near the 1100m.
JESSY BELLE – Shifted out to improve approaching the home turn and made contact with ONEMOREZETA on a number of occasions. Following the race the horse slipped in the horse stall area. The veterinary surgeon examined the horse and found the mare to have a slow recovery and to be suffering a case of thumps, as a result of which treatment was administered.
JUST A BLUR – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 1100m. Clipped heels and blundered when overracing near the 900m. Held up from the 300m until approaching the 100m.
MY POPPETTE – Connections advised that the horse, which is normally ridden back in the field, would be ridden in a forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced three wide without cover. Taken in on to another runner near the 1100m.
TELEPATHIC – Stood flat-footed and missed the start.
SLOTS – L. Grace was fined $200 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
BEATNIKS – Checked to avoid heels near the 900m.
Race 4: MIRVAC QUEENSLAND GUINEAS – 1600M
TOO GOOD TO REFUSE – Slow into stride.
TIVACI – Hampered at the start.
HAVASAY – Overraced badly in the middle stages and making the turn near the 1000m got its head up and shifted out towards the middle of the track. Carried wider from the 700m. Trainer L. Birchley indicated that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell, however he was advised that it would be required to perform satisfactorily in a trial before being permitted to race again.
INVINCIBLE KNIGHT – Inconvenienced and taken wider near the 1000m,
MR INDIVIDUAL – Severely hampered when crowded in the early stages. Overraced in the early stages and got its head up on numerous occasions. Hung out throughout the event. Trainer T. Corstens was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt's racing manners.
RENEGED – Hung in in the straight. T. Angland was fined $300 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
KIMBERLEY STAR – Severely hampered when crowded in the early stages.
DENMAGIC – T. Berry was fined $400 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
TSARITSA – J. Moreira was fined $500 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
TYPING – Inconvenienced and taken wider near the 1000m.
Race 5: MIRVAC QTC CUP – 1300M
STRATUM STAR – Stumbled on jumping. Shifted in under pressure near the 200m and made contact with another runner.
TARGET IN SIGHT – Eased down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a bleeding attack and to be suffering cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer J. Pride was advised that the horse would be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to racing again must gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward, must trial satisfactorily and undergo an ECG, the results of which must be provided to stewards.
SNIPPETS LAND – Held up in the early stages of the straight.
PERFECT FIT – M. Coleman reported that his mount was very disappointing and could over no excuse for the performance.
FEDERAL – S. Clipperton was fined $400 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
I AM ZELADY – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid heels near the 1000m.
TRUBIA – Raced three wide without cover. Bumped on the hind quarters near the 200m.
Race 6: EVERGREEN TURF BRISBANE CUP – 2400M
ECUADOR – A. Hyeronimus was fined $400 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
JUNOOB – B. Shinn was fined $500 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
RUDY – Caught wide in the early stages, allowed to stride forward and eventually race outside the lead.
SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD – Unable to secure clear running until approaching the 300m.
PUCCINI – Held up upon straightening until near the 300m.
JETSET LAD – Very slow to begin.
ASTRONOMOS – Trainer D. Vandyke advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden at the rear of the field. Slow into stride.
Race 7: BMW J.J. ATKINS – 1600M
NIKITAS – Brushed the fence near the 300m after taking a narrow run to the inside of JAWS OF STEEL when that runner shifted in momentarily.
ATTENTION – Tightened near the 1200m, had to be checked and lost its position. B. El-Issa, the rider of DREAMS APLENTY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in, tightening the running of BARBASS, OINK, SOUCHEZ and ATTENTION. B. El-Issa's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 15 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 18 June and expire at midnight on Sunday, 3 June 2016. Attempted to take a narrow run near the 500m where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied. B. Shinn was reprimanded for attempting to take that run.
SOUCHEZ – Tightened near the 1200m. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had a poor post-race recovery, was suffering from heat stress and subsequently colic and was transported to the Eagle Farm Veterinary Clinic.
BARBASS – Tightened near the 1200m.
OINK – Raced three wide without cover. Tightened near the 1200m.
DREAMS APLENTY – B. El-Issa reported that his saddle shifted during the running of the event.
JAWS OF STEEL – Checked shortly after the start when crowded.
REDOUBLE – Had to be steadied when tightened for room near the 500m.
CADOGAN – A post-race veterinary examination
CHARNLEY RIVER – Raced wide throughout.
MEET AND GREET – Held up rounding the home turn and hung in in the straight.
HEART SKIPT A BEAT – Raced four wide.
OUR CINDERELLA – Slow to begin.
Race 8: CHANNEL SEVEN QUEENSLAND DERBY – 2400M
HOWARD BE THY NAME – Slow to begin. Checked passing the winning post on the first occasion.
ETYMOLOGY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer J. O'Shea was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
MACKINTOSH – When questioned, B. Shinn stated that his mount's action changed on a number of occasions from the 1400m, which he attributed to not handling the track conditions. He added that the horse was under pressure near the 600m and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.
ENCOSTA LINE – Raced three wide without cover.
BRAZEN – Trainer D. Vandyke advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
ESCHIELE – Checked near the winning post on the first occasion when crowded inside RED ALTO, which in turn was taken in slightly by ENCOSTA LINE. As stewards were unable to establish any one rider to be at fault, no further action was taken.
HARVARD – Slow to begin.
Race 9: AAMI STRADBROKE H’CAP – 1400M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford B. Rawiller, the rider of 2nd placegetter BLACK HEART BART, the opportunity of viewing the stewards' patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner UNDER THE LOUVRE. After viewing the videos, jockey Rawiller declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.
BLACK HEART BART – Slow into stride. Raced four wide without cover from the 900m. B. Rawiller was fined $1000 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
DELECTATION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a proximal suspensory injury to the near foreleg and significant lameness. Trainer C. Waller was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
MUSIC MAGNATE – Struck the running rail near the 1000m and became unbalanced. Bumped near the 300m when weakening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
AZKADELLIA – Held up in the early stages of the straight.
UNDER THE LOUVRE – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse was showing signs of the thumps post-race.
SACRED STAR – Raced three wide from the 900m. V. Colgan was fined $750 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
PRECIOUS GEM – Slow to begin. Held up in the early stages of the straight.
Race 10: TREASURY CASINO & HOTEL QUEENSLAND OAKS (QTIS 3YO) – 2400M
AMBIENCE – Steadied near the 700m when disappointed for a run.
CHABAUD – Had to be steadied near the 500m to avoid the heels of IMPOSING LASS, which shifted out when not properly clear. J. Collett, the rider of IMPOSING LASS, was reprimanded.
KEBEDE – Became unbalanced near the 900m, shifted in and brushed the running rail.
ALASKAN ROSE – Slow into stride.
TAVI BAY – Inconvenienced at the start.
ZASORCERESS – Checked when crowded at the start. D. Griffin reported that he felt the horse pulled up sore in the off foreleg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no lameness, however the horse was exhibiting a slow post-race recovery.
MOUNT OMEI – Raced three wide without cover.
PROVOCATIVE – L. Inness was fined the sum of $1500 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
