DENMAN UNLIMITED – Near the 900m when overracing had to be eased from the heels of ZOLLIKON MISS, which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey M. ZOLLIKON MISS – Near the 850m had to be restrained from the heels of SHALWA, when that runner shifted out from behind the leader. LASHONI – Forced wider near the 900m. Raced three wide in the early stages. Race 3: Eva Air Class 6 Plate – 1600m TREVELYAN – Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey R. Stewart regarding the riding tactics adopted on the gelding today, which raced three wide in the early stages before being restrained to a rearward position trailing ADMIRAL JELLO. Jockey Stewart explained that he anticipated settling in a midfield position with cover however, when SAVWELL began better and proceeded forward three wide, in his opinion he would have had to work too hard to attempt to clear that runner approaching the 1000m and as ADMIRAL JELLO had improved to his inside for this reason he restrained behind that runner. Jockey Stewart added that following this the tempo of the race slowed and he may have erred by not attempting to improve forward outside of ADMIRAL JELLO approaching the 600m. Jockey Stewart further added that despite the gelding being not suited by the tempo of the race when racing in a rearward position he was somewhat disappointed with the manner in which it quickened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Stewards noted his explanation. Co-trainer C. Meagher advised Stewards that he was disappointed with today’s riding of the horse by Jockey Stewart as he had instructed Jockey Stewart that if he was caught wide to take up a forward position. Mr Meagher added when TREVELYAN has raced towards the rear in the past it hasn’t performed well and when the race developed into a sprint home in his opinion the gelding had no opportunity to finish the race off competitively. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3. Race 4: OSIM Open Handicap – 1840m MORENDI – Restrained in the early stages to gain a position closer to the rail. Overraced in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. OUR MANTRA – Raced three wide in the early stages before gaining a position one off the rail near the 1100m. Approaching the winning post was tightened for room and had to be checked by its rider when JAKAMA laid in. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that approaching the winning post JAKAMA laid in away from DON’T STOP despite the efforts of its rider and crowded the running of NAVAL STRIKE which had to be checked. Stewards after hearing the evidence from the riders involved and viewing the race footage, determined that Jockey M Du Plessis the rider of JAKAMA made every effort to correct the racing line of his mount when it shifted in away from DON’T STOP and therefore were of the opinion that his actions weren’t careless and not in breach of the rules and as such took no further action. GALA MISS – Had to be restrained from the widest barrier to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail. When overracing had to be restrained from the heels of BELLS APPROACHING near the 800m. BELLS APPROACHING – Near the 1100m commenced to overrace and had to be checked off the heels of TAKE TEA and shifted out, resulting in DON’T STOP being taken wider on the track. Leaving the 500m shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running and made contact with STAR OF MICHELIN, forcing that runner wide. DON’T STOP – Taken wider near the 1100m. Raced three wide without cover from the 1000m. SPIRITUAL ROSE – Momentarily tightened for room and had to be restrained near the 800m.
