GENERAL
Trainer P Jenkins was reprimanded pursuant to LR 44 for failing to provide a race day authority letter.
 
Race 1: MAKERS MARK MAIDEN PLATE 1840M
 
A DIME APPROACH – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
OCTAVIO – Hampered shortly after start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
 
SPACE JOURNEY – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey K Wilson Taylor reported that his mount travelled well throughout, however proved disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight.
 
UNITED FRONT – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid out over the concluding stages, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Jockey M Harley reported to Stewards at scale that his mount raced ungenerously and hung out throughout the event.
 
EXPOSITION – As R Maloney was overweight, he was replaced by R Dolan. Jockey R Maloney was fined $300 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying upper respiratory noises. Trainer representative for C Waller was advised EXPOSITION would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic results prior to resuming racing.
 
CASSIE'S GIRL – Stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer L Paton was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
DUMA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming momentarily cast in the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
KALENDS – Passing the 1600m, was momentarily inconvenienced having its hind quarters turned after A DIME APPROACH shifted out on the point of the turn.
 
CHARPAT – Approaching the 1500m was eased to avoid the heels of DUMA which shifted in to obtain cover.
 
BRAMBLE BAY – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: THE WOTP TRIO CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1840M
 
WHODAT – Jockey R Dolan pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the final two and a half strides which in the opinion of Stewards cost WHODAT running 4th place. Jockey R Dolan’s license to ride in races was suspended for 6 days to commence midnight 11th November 2023 up to and including midnight 17th November 2023.
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – When questioned regarding his horse leading by a considerable distance Jockey R Maloney stated his mount over raced and was unable to come back underneath him.
 
SUNSET SOIREE – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: IMPRESSU QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M
 
MISHANI RAIDER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying respiratory noises and to be lame in its off hind leg. Trainer L Ross was advised MISHANI RAIDER would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic results prior to resuming racing.
 
SHE'S A ROGUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
TOWN CRIER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer S O’Dea was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG results and a satisfactory trial prior to resuming racing.
 
HAYAI UMA – Began awkwardly. Passing the 800m had to be steadied and shifted out across the heels of FEMME FATALE which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice C Graham, rider of FEMME FATALE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
FEMME FATALE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Approaching the 700m momentarily inconvenienced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HAYAI UMA which steadied off heels.
 
BOOM BOOM BELLA – Hampered after the start.
 
BEAULINE – Approaching the 700m was momentarily inconvenienced and raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of MISHANI MYSTIQUE which rolled in after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 200m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CUNNAMULLA FELLA which shifted out marginally.
 
Race 4: NOVA 106.9 BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000M
 
LIGHTFAST – Raced wide for majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a small abrasion on the off-fore fetlock.
 
PACIFIC PADRINO – Began awkwardly and bumped DEEP ROUGE
 
DEEP ROUGE – Bumped after the start.
 
BURNING BELL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not racing for an extended period of time and was cleared to start.
 
Race 5: INTRO RECRUITMENT CUP MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
 
BETTER BE NORDY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running up until approaching the 200m.
 
MISS BACALL (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
HEARTS ARE RACING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LA BELLA DIVA – Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained when racing in restricted room to the inside of CASPERNOVA who was carried in by EVER SO CLEVER who was placed in restricted room by FLY D’AMORE who shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice B Wheeler, rider of FLYING D’AMORE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening HEARTS ARE RACING and approaching the 100m was obliged to shift in.
 
Race 6: CENTURY POOLS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1600M
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes owing to CONTRITION and TAIRUA both trained by P Jenkins, having to be re-weighed after being presented to the mounting yard with the incorrect saddle. As trainer P Jenkins was not on course, Stewards intend to inquire into the circumstance in which led to both runners being presented with incorrect saddles within a time and date to be fixed.
 
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Trainer’s representative for C Waller advised a change of tactics and that MOKTAFFY would be ridden further back if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Over raced in the early and middle stages of the event. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey M Harley reported his horse over raced throughout and failed to respond when asked for an effort in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
CONTRITION (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
TAIRUA (NZ) – Trainer P Jenkins was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Slow to begin.
 
BELLA TIVACI (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in during the early stages of the event. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey D Thornton reported that in his opinion the mare was not suited to the pace of today’s race.
 
Race 7: ASCOT GREEN CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400M
 
RUSSIAN SUB – Began awkwardly.
 
CRAZY BRAVE – Began awkwardly.
 
WARBY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
BRASCO – Over raced in the middle stages and when passing the 800m, shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Approaching the 100m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OLD SONG which shifted in under pressure. S Cormack rider of OLD SONG was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
PARIS AVENUE – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
WINSOME STAR – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
OLD SONG – Hampered after the start. Passing the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.
 
WEST CORK – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
MORE MAX – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice M Castle was of the opinion that MORE MAX failed the step up in class of today’s event.
 
Race 8: CANADIAN CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2418M
 
LATELY (NZ) – Trainer’s representative for L Freedman advised they was disappointed with today’s performance and in their opinion he raced flat. It is the stables intention to have blood work done in the coming days and would forward the results to Stewards.
 
UNZAGA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ENDLESS MYSTERY – Began awkwardly.
 
KUREDER (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight up until the 300m.
 
ENUNCIATION – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late rider declaration from Trainer K Schweida for acceptable reasons.
 
I PREFER MINTIES (NZ) – Stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer T Gollan was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
ONLY LOVE (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
SIR ZINO (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 9: LADBROKES HUB CLASS 5 HANDICAP         1200M
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Carried wider approaching the winning post when brushed by IRING which was improving into a narrow run.
 
HIDDEN EYES – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey M Harley stated he could offer no explanation.
 
IRING – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages of the event. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 200m.
 
TRANQUIL BAY – Raced in restricted room over the final 100m and was unable to be fully tested and was hampered approaching the winning post.
