SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Saturday 9 December 2023 at Eagle Farm – Race 10 – DUKE OF BUCKINGHAM:
Trainer C. Meagher advised Stewards that following the disappointing performance of DUKE OF BUCKINGHAM, it is his likely intention to retire the gelding. Stewards advised Mr Meagher that a warning would be placed on the gelding following its poor performance.
 
 
 
 

 
Race 1: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M
 
SCOTTISH LAIRD – Began awkwardly.
 
BORN FEARLESS – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Approaching the 800m, was awkwardly placed on the heels of DEE STORMED.
 
DEE STORMED – Approaching the 1100m, steadied when racing tight to the inside of O'POLLY.
 
KEYBOARD – On leaving the gates, Jockey M. Rodd contacted the partition of the barrier. Approaching and rounding the home turn, laid out. Jockey M. Rodd reported the filly may have been found wanting over the distance and has recommended to be ridden with cover in future starts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BEEN A SECRET – Near the 1100m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of O’POLLY (G. Cartwright) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey G. Cartwright was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Held up for a run approaching the 400m until near the 200m.
 
SHOUTS ALL DAY – Slow to begin. When under pressure in the straight, laid in.
 
Race 2: BRC CHRISTMAS CAROLS 16 DECEMBER CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1600 M
 
END OF MONTH (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
DARK CHILL – Raced wide throughout without cover for the majority of the event.
 
SUPER DUCK – Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount laid out for the majority.  
 
VICTORIA ROC (NZ) – Began awkwardly. When racing keenly near the 1100m, got its head up and became momentarily unbalanced. Held up from the 400m until passing the 300m.
 
MIGHTY JUDD – Jockey J. Stanley reported the gelding raced well in the early and middle stages, however; when asked for an effort in the straight, was disappointing. When weaking near the 150m, steadied when tightened for room.
 
TOOLATEMATE – Began awkwardly. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
A CERTAIN MAYBE – For some distance passing the 300m, raced tight between MIGHTY JUDD, which was laying in slightly and SUPER DUCK, which was laying out.  Approaching the 100m, again raced tight between SUPER DUCK, which was continuing to lay out and DARK CHILL, which shifted in slightly under pressure. In this incident, A CERTAIN MAYBE became unbalanced after making contact with SUPER DUCK.
 
PROSPERINA – Change of tactics-attempt to be ridden further back from the wide barrier. Slow into stride and consequently settled at the rear.
 
Race 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1835 M
 
OUTBURST – Near the 100m, steadied when tightened between DIANA'S AFFAIR, which shifted in slightly before being straightened and PREFER US (NZ) (A. Jones), which shifted out under riding. Jockey A. Jones was reprimanded.
 
SECURITY ADVISOR – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PREFER US (NZ). Laid out in the early and middle stages when leading.
 
TIME TO TESTIFY – Jockey M. Rodd reported the gelding raced ungenerously, laid out and was eased down from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery. Trainer S. Dwyer advised he will make an assessment of the gelding over the coming days and report back to Stewards.
 
CAPTAIN UNDERPANTZ – Jockey R. Dolan reported the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer S. Wise advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
PREFER US (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Jockey A. Jones was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip six (6) times prior to the 100m, one (1) more than permitted.
 
Race 4: KOBAYASHI AT AQUIS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages when wide without cover. When questioned, Apprentice M. Potgieter explained as the gelding was first up today, he was instructed not to sit wide but to find cover as the gelding has shown a tendency to over race. He said in the early stages when wide and racing keenly, it took him some time to get the gelding to come back under him, which he was able to do near the 900m. He said he considered on several occasions trying to improve his position passing the 800m to the inside of THUNDER MANIA, however; that gelding shifted in slightly on several occasions baulking his mount. He added after obtaining clear running, TEXAS (NZ) made good ground in the straight.
 
THUNDER MANIA – Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven (7) times prior to the 100m, two (2) more than permitted.
 
CHIEF ARTIE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting symptoms of mild heat stress.
 
ALREADY A STAR – Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the 150m shifted in abruptly before being corrected.
 
BAUHINIA ROCK – Began awkwardly.
 
READY AZZ EVA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary behind examination behind the barriers due to having blood in its mouth.
 
 

 
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS MAIDEN PLATE  1400 M
 
CALL ME HILTON – Began awkwardly from the wide gate and found cover at the rear of the field.
 
ELROY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight, before shifting out passing the 300m into clear running. Laid in under pressure over the final 150m.  
 
FLY WITH YOU – Jockey E. Chaves was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six (6) times prior to the 100m, one (1) more than permitted.  Jockey E. Chaves was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount to the end of the race, where possible.
 
OUR DRUMMER – Jockey B. Thompson reported the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T. Thomas advised the gelding would be freshened up.
 
STAR OF PERU – Raced wide throughout.
 
WHATTA WHITT – Passing the 1200m, commenced to race keenly with its head up and was awkward when tight to the inside of FLY WITH YOU (E. Chaves), which was shifting in. E. Chaves was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. WHATTA WITT continued to race keenly for some distance after this.
 
ANOTHERLOVELYDAY – Eased down from the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery. Apprentice C. Graham reported the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Walk confirmed the mare will be sent for a spell.
 
Race 6: XXXX GOLD CLASS 3 PLATE 1000 M
 
BILLY'S BRO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
SONGZILLA – Change of tactics-attempt to settle further back from the wide barrier. After beginning well, commenced to race keenly and settled behind the lead.
 
STAR GAMBLE – Jockey M. Harley explained the gelding had shown in a recent jump-out it performed best when not placed under pressure too early in the straight. He said today he rode STAR GAMBLE similarly, and in his opinion, the gelding finished the race off extremely well ridden this way.
 
HIGH PLATEAU – Raced wide throughout.
 
TAPIS MAGIQUE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 7:LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI CLASS 2 HANDICAP      1200 M
 
HEAD LEGISLATOR – Bumped at the start. Jockey B. Loy reported he was disappointing in the gelding’s performance.  
 
TARPS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
ROMANOVA – Leaving the gates, shifted out and bumped HEAD LEGISLATOR.
