SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Doomben 30/10/2024 Race 7: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE CLASS 2 HANDICAP  1350 M
 
Trainer M. Nolan reported to Stewards that MASTER GEE had recovered well following its performance on 30/10/2024 and he would be continuing with the gelding’s current preparation.
 
GENERAL
Race 2 – KIRKEBY, Jockey R. Maloney was fined $500 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
Race 1: JONKER FIRST YEARLINGS 2025 QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP  1000 M
 
CUDDLES FOR KIMMY – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m shifted out in an attempt to improve to the outside of MADDIE’S COMET, shortly thereafter became awkwardly placed at the heels of MADDIE’S COMENT when the filly commenced to lay out under pressure and was unable to improve into clear running for a distance passing the 150m until approaching the 100m.
 
DESTINYS SUMMIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly in the home straight.  
 
LOCKYER – Began awkwardly.
 
OKANUI – Began awkwardly, hampered shortly after and lost ground. Passing the 500m, had to be restrained when racing in restricted room.
 
MISHANI EXTREME – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
DESTINYS PINNACLE – Shifted in on jumping. Passing the 500m, had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of OKANUI who had to be steadied. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
MADDIE'S COMET – Raced greenly in the home straight. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Apprentice T. Fenlon
 
STRAWBERRY SMASH – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
Race 2: DRINKWISE BM90 HANDICAP 2200 M
 
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Over raced during the early stages when the pace of the race was reduced.
 
STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Over raced during the early stages. Leaving the 1200m when the pace of the race was reduced, Jockey A. Mallyon permitted to stride forward into a leading position leaving the 1100m.
 
KIRKEBY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
FLEUR DU MONDE – Over raced during the early stages when the pace of the race was reduced. Jockey N. Beriman was advised to exercise greater care when reducing the pace of the race. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – When questioned regarding CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE in leading today’s event, Jockey N. Beriman stated that she was instructed to not be wide on entering the first turn, she added after beginning fairly, she commenced to pressure her mount and was able to cross to a leading position passing the winning post on the first occasion. Stable representative L. Kelly Jr stated that he was surprised to see the gelding leading in today’s event, though concurred that the instructions were for CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE to not be wide. He further added that given today’s performance, it is likely that the gelding will continue to race in a forward position for the remainder of this preparation. Stewards advised Mr Kelly Jr that in future when providing such open instructions which could lead to a change of tactics, to advise Stewards.
 
BAK DA MAN (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages when the pace of the race was reduced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ARTFUL GIRL – Raced wide until leaving the 1500m. Lost near side winker near the 200m. Lost near fore shoe.
 
ROLLER COASTER (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages when the pace of the race was reduced. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SIR LAMORAK (IRE) – Apprentice E. Lang allowed her mount to improve to take up a leading position passing the 1500m and steadied the pace of the race. Apprentice E. Lang was advised to exercise greater care when reducing the pace of a race.
 
Race 3: XXXX BM68 HANDICAP  1600 M
 
MY PINS (NZ) – Apprentice E. Lang reported at scale that her mount weakened noticeably in the straight and the mare was making a respiratory noise on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities other than the mare to be in season.
 
AMERICAN PHIREBALL – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
POSEIDON RULER – Raced wide until taking up a position outside the leader near the 1100m.
 
ICHIBAN – Passing the 200m was bumped by CARTWHEELS which laid out under pressure. Approaching the 100m, accidentally was struck with the whip.
 
AERIAL DANCER – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
CARTWHEELS – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
UMETINI – Approaching the 100m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of the weakening MY PINS (NZ), had to shift in across heels, race in restricted room and was unable to be fully tested in the run to the finish.
 
KARIACTION – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 100m by AMERICAN PHIREBALL which shifted in under pressure.
 
Race 4: CIVILPIPES QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP  1500 M
 
APUNTAR – Over raced during the early stages. Approaching the 1200m, raced in restricted room for an extended period to the inside of CHAMIERRO. Approaching the 1000m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CHAMIERRO which shifted in. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Shortly after entering the home straight shifted in and away from OUR BENEFACTOR (NZ). Stewards intend to inquire into the 1200m incident on Tuesday 5/11/2024 as well as the circumstances of Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester leaving the course without Stewards permission.
 
PROMINENT LAD – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages
 
OUR BENEFACTOR (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight before shifting in passing the 300m.
 
PROPOSE – Began awkwardly.
 
ROCKRATA – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short period on entering the home straight before commencing to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a respiratory noise. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised ROCKRATA would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of endoscopic results prior to resuming. Trainer R. Tyrell advised he would report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
 
HARLEY CHARLIE – Jockey R. Dolan reported that his mount raced very greenly throughout.
 
Race 5: NOVA 106.9 BM85 HANDICAP  1000 M
 
RALPHIE – Slow to begin.
 
APPIN GIRL – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
FLAMING CONQUEST – Jockey G. Cartwright reported that in her opinion the mare proved disappointing and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TARA JASMINE – Raced wide throughout.
 
UNO MOON – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages.
 
Race 6: U&U RECRUITMENT CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
EPIC PROPORTIONS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
TRANSATLANTIC – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages. Passing the 200m raced in restricted room for a number of strides and passing the 150m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of EPIC PROPORTIONS which shifted out under riding. Jockey R. Maloney rider of EPIC PROPORTIONS plead guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 200m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of TRANSATLANTIC and as a result, TRANSATLANTIC was obliged to shift away from the heels of EPIC PROPORTIONS. Jockey R. Maloney’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days commencing midnight 9/11/2024 up to and including midnight 18/11/2024.
 
PAYLINE – Began awkwardly.
 
DEFERENTIAL – Jockey C. Graham reported her mount was caught wide throughout the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Slow to begin and was hampered shortly after the start. Over raced throughout the event. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated that his mount travelled well throughout the event, however he became concerned with the action of the gelding over the concluding stages after the gelding commenced to give ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TEXAS FIREBALL – Shifted out on jumping and bumped IT’S RAINING AGAIN.
 
Race 7: CANADIAN CLUB BM78 HANDICAP  1805 M
 
WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Shifted out on entering the home straight before being corrected, resulting in WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) shifting in abruptly and becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of INDY ROSE WARRIOR. Approaching the 200m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of INDY ROSE WARRIOR which shifted out and as a result, shifted back in to improve into clear running. Inside the final 50m, was carried inwards by INDY ROSE WARRIOR which shifted out under pressure. Jockey R. Dolan rider of INDY ROSE WARRIOR plead guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 200m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) and as a result, WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) was obliged to steady and shift away from the heels of INDY ROSE WARRIOR. Jockey R. Dolan’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing midnight 7/11/2024 up to and including midnight 15/11/2024.  
 
PAGATO – Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that his mount raced keenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
 
EVOCATOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
JOHNNY DASH – Slow to begin. Raced wide until passing the 1400m. Commenced to weaken noticeably passing the 600m. Jockey M. Harley reported that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
 
NAVAL SEAL – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Shortly after straightening, after attempting to improve into a run between KERCHAK (NZ) and WAIRERE FALLS (NZ), had to be restrained to avoid the heels of WAIRERE FALLS which shifted out marginally before being corrected.
 
Race 8: LADBROKES OWN SPRING BM78 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
The start of this race was delayed when ANYTHINK GOES kicked the barrier partition and sustained an off-hind laceration. ANYTHINK GOES was declared a late scratching at 5:11pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on ANYTHINK GOES be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – AMERICAN PRESIDENT 12c win, 30c place
2nd – OUR MAGNUS 19c place
3rd – OCEAN ZAR 0c place
 
Trainer M. Smith was advised ANYTHINK GOES would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
ENCODER – Began awkwardly.
 
OUR MAGNUS – Bumped after the start.
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over raced whilst racing in restricted room rounding the home turn.
 
OCEAN ZAR – Began awkwardly and bumped OUR MAGNUS.
 
AMERICAN PRESIDENT – When questioned regarding today’s improved performance, Co Trainer A. Simpson stated that the horse has a well-known issue with hanging out, he has been able to rectify the issue and as the horse raced tractable today, was able to race up to the expectations of the stable as the horse has been pleasing in its work leading into today’s event. Co Trainer A. Simpson was fined $200 pursuant to AR 106(1) for presenting his horse to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear.
 
Race 9: PADUA COLLEGE OPEN HANDICAP  1400 M
 
The start of this race was delayed when THE DROVER was declared a late scratching at 5:42pm on veterinary advice after rearing the in barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on THE DROVER be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – FLYING TRAPEZE 8c win, 10c place
2nd – BROOKHAVEN 8c place
3rd – SUBSTANTIAL 8c place
 
Trainer D. Batters was advised THE DROVER would require a veterinary clearance and a further barrier certificate prior to resuming.
 
UCALLEDIT (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
MANHOOD – Jockey R. Stewart reported that in his opinion the gelding didn’t handle the step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
SUBSTANTIAL (GB) – Over raced during the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. On entering the home straight became awkwardly placed on heels. When questioned regarding tactics adopted in the home straight and if apprentice E. Lang had an opportunity to improve her mount rounding the home turn, she stated that her mount raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and after UCALLEDIT improved to her outside, she was of the opinion that she would have had to steadied her mount in order for her to come to the outside of UCALLEDIT and added that she was of the opinion that as UCALLEDIT had settled wide throughout the event, anticipated that gelding weakening which would give her a run on entering the home straight. After that run not presenting on entering the home straight, raced in restricted room resulting in her being held up on entering the home straight.
 
BROOKHAVEN – Began awkwardly. Held up on entering the home straight and after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SUBSTANTIAL was obliged to shift in to improve.  
 
EXOTIQUE MISS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
