General: on arrival at the track, and after further overnight rain of 15mls, stewards downgraded the track rating from a Soft 5 to a Heavy 8 at 11:30am. Furthermore, following an inspection of the inside section of track between the 1300 metres and the 1200 metres where the 1350 chute joins with the course proper, stewards, in consultation with all jockeys riding at today’s meeting and club officials, ordered that for the running of races 4 & 5 plastic witches hats be placed approx. 4 horses off the fence to avoid that section of the track. A public announcement was made to this effect.




RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1003Metres

EVERINGHAM – jumped out at the start and checked another runner.

OUR BOY – which was having its first in approx. 2 years was examined prior to the event by club vet and cleared to start. Slow to begin.

TRAMPS N THIEVES – jumped in at the start.

MONO GIRL – began awkwardly, hung out rounding the home-turn.

THAT’S ROSIE – after being loaded broke through barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by club Vet and cleared to start. App M Cox was fined $100 under AR145 for returning to scale 1 kg overweight.

BLUE RIVER – rider dislodged in preliminary, quickly remounted and cleared by club Vet to start.

CLANGS TOUCH – checked at the start.









RACE 2: CLASS B HDCP1030 Metres

DUFOUR – slow to begin. When questioned regarding below market performance rider C McIver reported the gelding in his opinion did not handle the prevailing tack conditions. A post race vet exam of DUFOUR failed to reveal any abnormalities.

STRADA DELLA MODDA - obliged to steady from heels shortly after the start when another runner shifted in.

ZA BUBBLES – raced wide in the early stages.

BUCK THE SYSTEM – laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

LEILA’S CALL – shifted in shortly after the start hampering another runner. App A Spinks advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.




RACE 3: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1200 Metres

MIDNIGHT CURFEW – raced wide throughout.

SPEEDREADER – hampered rounding the 900 metres when another runner made that turn awkwardly and shifted out.

BUSH BEAT – when questioned regarding below market performance App H English stated the gelding in her opinion failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

USURPER – slow to begin. Rider C McIver was examined by QAS medical staff and stood down from remaining engagements with replacements as per stewards’ summary sheet. C McIver was advised he would be required to provide a medical certificate before riding again.

BINESI – hung out rounding the 900 metre turn despite the efforts of its rider and hampered another runner.



RACE 4: BENCHMARK 45HDCP 1350 Metres

UNDER THE WEATHER – taken wider by another runner rounding the home-turn.

TIN’S POCKET – rider App A Spinks was reprimanded under AR140(b) for failing to report to stewards his concerns with the action of the gelding on arrival behind the barriers. At a subsequent inquiry trainer B Hudson informed stewards TIN’S POCKET had been shod 3 days prior to today’s event and that as the gelding is thin soled, it has a tendency to appear scratchy in its action. In noting Mr Hudson’s explanation stewards nonetheless advised him of the provisions under AR140(a)(ii)(b). A post race Vet exam of TIN’S POCKET immediately following the event was inclusive, however on cooling down a further examination revealed some soreness in the off foreleg. Mr Hudson was advised TIN’S POCKET would require a Vet certificate prior to its next race start.

TOUCAN UKELELE – correct weight was delayed to allow rider S Bayliss to review the start of this event. After doing so correct was declared on the judges’ semaphored placings.

CANID – shifted out rounding the home-turn taking another runner wider on the track.

OUTBACK WRANGLER – raced wide for the majority of the event.





RACE 5: OPEN HDCP 1350 Metres

FAULTLESS DANCER – when questioned regarding below market performance App M Cox stated the mare travelled well in the lead to the 600 metres, however when placed under pressure from that point failed to respond to her riding and was most disappointing. A post race vet exam failed to reveal any abnormality.

MORE OF THE ZAIM – when questioned regarding below market performance, rider S Bayliss expressed disappointment with the overall effort of the gelding and could offer no explanation for its poor performance. Trainer S McEwan advised stewards it would be her intention to now freshen up MORE OF THE ZAIM and then review its current preparation. A post race Vet exam failed to reveal any abnormality.

DELAGOS – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

GAS BURNER – slipped badly behind when racing on the fence and lost ground in the heavy conditions near the 1000 metres.

YARRANDI – tightened between runners on jumping away.
