The track was upgraded at 11am to a Good 4.
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 5: SPIRIT’S CHARM – N Fazackerley 56kg (+1kg)

 
Race 1 – Benchmark 60 Hdcp (1030 METRES)
 
SHIGERU MAHOGANY – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event.
 
BUNGARRIBEE LAD – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
COMMENTS – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
HANGRY – Bumped with EXPRESS DRAGON at the start.
 
EXPRESS DRAGON – Bumped with HANGRY at the start.
 
DARCIE GIRL – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Rider Adam Spinks reported he was of the opinion the horse would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
Following the running of this event apprentice Brooke Johnson sustained a bump above her left eye when unsaddling QWICK and was attended to by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill her remaining engagements.
 
 
Race 2 - QTIS Class B Hdcp (1200 METRES)
 
FRIDAY’S JET – Checked near the 500m between SHELLEY’S SPIRIT, which hung out when weakening, and UCHIDA, which shifted in momentarily before being corrected by its rider.
 
INFINITE JOY – Slow to begin.
 
QWICK – Checked approaching the 800m. In the presence of senior rider K Gates, apprentice S Willis, rider of SHELLEYT’S SPIRIT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in and crowd the running of QUARTER PAST which  was taken in resulting in QWICK having to be checked. The licence of S Willis to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 1st October up to and including midnight 8th October 2022.
 
SHELLEY’S SPIRIT – Hung out when weakening near the 500m. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance rider S Willis reported the horse was second up today after a significant spell, and in her opinion would take benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
UCHIDA – Near the 500m shifted in momentarily before being corrected by its rider. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
KAKITIYA – After being loaded into the barriers broke through the front barrier partition, was quickly restrained by its rider, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and as a result was unable to be fully tested by its rider over the final 150m.
 
QUARTER PAST – Crowded for room andtaken in near the 800m.
 
 
Race 3 - Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
 
DESERT SANDS – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
MARMION – Raced wide for the majority of the event. On return to the saddling enclosure following the running of this event, it was established the pre-race earmuffs had not been removed from the horse prior to the start, and MARMION completed the race with that piece of gear fitted. This was brought to the attention of starter Mr S Hamilton and rider Ian French.
 
SUDDEN SUSPECT – Rider K Gates reported the horse was not suited by the fast early pace and finished the race off strongly, adding SUDDEN SUSPECT was dropping back significantly in distance and its best performances had been in races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
ZIMBOOMBAH – Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MAHIGRANT – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Made the home turn awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 4 – Ratings 0-50 Hdcp (1350 METRES)
 
RED MONKEY – Made home turn awkwardly.
 
 
Race 5 – Open Hdcp (1350 METRES)
 
BERNIE’S TIGER – Lunged forward in barriers as the start was effected and lost significant ground. In this incident apprentice A Donald was bumped heavily in the face, sustaining a cut to the inside of her mouth, and following the event was attended to by QAS staff.
 
THE BRUMBY – Slow to begin.
 
PAST TENSE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
POINT THE WAGON – Made the home turn awkwardly.
 
DAUNTING WARRIOR – Slow to begin.
 
BOULT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. I French, rider of BOULT, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
