STEWARDS REPORT EMERALD JOCKEY CLUB – SUNDAY 31 DECEMBER 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (3)RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr L CollinsStewards –Mr M Heath Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – ClubVeterinarian- Dr E HamiltonSwab attendants –M NewmanStarter- J McLellan General Prior to the commencement of the meeting, Stewards considered the application for a riding fee made by Jockey P. Romeo for Race 3 OVER THE CHOICE. Stewards determined that Jockey Romeo was engaged to ride the horse and subsequently that engagement was withdrawn. Stewards ordered that Jockey Romeo be paid a losing ride fee and any applicable percentage. Race 1: Ken O’Dowd MP Maiden Plate 1000m TRISTINITE- When M Abe was found to be overweight, he was replaced by R. Faehr. Jockey Abe was fined $100 (AR 120(b) SOME FAIRY SONG- Slow to begin. FIDEREUS- Lost its near fore plate in running. MILALBA- Began awkwardly. Lost its near fore plate in running. OAKFIELD ARCHIE- Slow into stride. HAYYLER’S CROSS- Raced wide without cover. PLAYBOOK- Raced wide with cover. App N Fazackerley was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 100 metres, he permitted THIRD ROCK to shift in when insufficient clear of PLAYBOOK which caused it to be tightened, clip heels and blunder. It was conceded that PLAYBOOK had contact DIGIT immediately before and was placed in restricted room prior to the incident. App Fazackerley’s licence to ride in races was suspended from m/n 6 January, 2018 up to and including 17 January, 2018 (11 days). Stewards did consider his good record in relation to careless riding. App A Thompson was cautioned with regard to his conduct on pulling up, return to the enclosure and in the enclosure. Race 2: Quarries Of Queensland Ratings 0-50 Handicap 1000m BORN TO FIRE- When Jockey D Sparks wished to be replaced due to the hot weather conditions, Stewards permitted him to be replaced by Jockey R Faehr. Raced wide without cover throughout. MANDOLIN MANNI- Hampered between runners which shifted ground on jumping. PETITE ELLE- Raced ungenerously in the early stages. ROCK ON SKYE- Raced three wide without cover. HIDDEN THUNDER- Approaching the 100 metres, held up for clear running when MOZZINATOR shifted ground under pressure. MOUNTAIN RETREAT- Apprentice Fazackerley was reminded of the rules relating to use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. Race 3: Can Do Pest Control BM 65 Handicap 1000m SILENT RAGE- Slow into stride. DRINKING COCKTAILS- Raced wide without cover. KAHUNA- Raced with without cover. Hung out near the 400 metres. Following Race 3, in consultation with the Club President, Stewards decided to run the remaining races earlier than scheduled due to an imminent storm. Race 4: Central Highlands Regional Council Class 3 Plate- 1200m Race was run at 5.50pm. SOUTHERN ALBATROSS- Knuckled at the start and lost ground. AMBER’S GIRL- Raced wide for the majority of the race. MAGIC SCENE- Apprentice A Thompson, with the assistance of his master, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed AMBER’S GIRL to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC SCENE and caused that horse to be tightened, clip heels and blunder. Apprentice Thompson’s licence to ride in races was suspended from m/n 6 January 2018 up to and including 16 January, 2018 (10 Days). Stewards took into account his guilty plea and that this was his first careless riding suspension. THE BAKER- Explanation regarding the late declaration of rider was accepted, however Trainer G Bell was reminded to declare a rider at the required time in future. With regard to the performance of the gelding, given its performance at its previous start, Ms Bell explained that she had given the horse time to recover and the results of blood analysis had caused her to alter the training of the horse. Ms Bell further stated that she had changed gear since its previous start and this was also a weaker race. Race 5: Happy New Year Class B Handicap 1300m Race was run at 6.17pm. PAYOFF- Declared a late scratching at 10.27am when trainer advised the mare was unfit to race after sustaining an injury at the stables. LITTLE HUNTER- Tightened at the start onto MASON’S CHANCE when DELANCIA jumped inwards. With regard to its performance, Apprentice L Dodds stated the horse had appreciated the softer track surface at Mackay and on the firm track surface had failed to stretch out. MISTY ISLAND- Slow to begin and took up a position close to the running rail at the rear of the field.
