GENERAL

As H. English was not riding at today’s meeting due to transport difficulties, riding replacements were made as per the stewards Race Day Summary.

On arrival on course, stewards became concerned with multiple patches of grass that had become effected by grubs creating dead patches on the racing line around the entire track. Stewards inspected the areas with a delegation of senior riders and agreed that the track was in a safe condition to race but downgraded the track to a Soft 7.

Acting on a report from the Integrity Investigations Team, Stewards interviewed Trainer K Miller in relation to him being in possession of a syringe in his horse float. Mr Miller advised stewards that the syringe had not been used and had been in his float without his knowledge for some time, which was consistent with no liquid being present.  Stewards were satisfied that the syringe had not been used but ordered all horses transported on the float to be sampled and the syringe was seized for analyses. Trainer K Miller pleaded guilty to a charge under AR251(1)(b)(i) in that he had in his possession a syringe in his horse float that could be used to administer a prohibited substance and was fined $400.

All sixteen (16) riders were breathalysed prior to taking their first ride of the day. All returned negative.
