SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Apprentice J Hodge was stood down when failing to produce a required medical certificate and was replaced in race two by Apprentice Guthmann-Chester. Following race two App. Hodge provided a medical that he obtained locally and was cleared to ride the remainder of his engagements.


Race 1: VINCE ROBERTON BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 800m

MONTE LARGO – Slow to begin.

DALIWOY BAY – Steadied near the 600m when placed in restricted room.

MRS ASIA – Raced wide throughout.

JEPTOO – Raced wide throughout.


Race 2: DR. TONY FITZGERALD MAIDEN PLATE 1200m

SWEET BOBBY – Began slow and awkwardly.

SHADOW QUEEN - Clipped the heels of LITTLE MISTER (App. Johnston-Bell) near the 1000m and blundered, dislodging App. B Panya. At a subsequent inquiry, App. Johnston-Bell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR.137 (a), in that he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SHADOW QUEEN. App. Johnson-Bell’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 weeks, to commence midnight the 6th of July 2016, and to expire midnight the 3rd of August 2016. App B Panya was subsequently cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.

LITTLE MISTER – Upon returning to scales, App. Johnson-Bell reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event.

PURSUING GLORY – Took no competitive part in the event from the 1000m after being hampered by the riderless horse.

BARBARA OF SEVILLE - Held up around the home turn.

TRIPLE WON – Raced wide throughout the event.


Race 3: DAN O'BRIEN MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200m

LA TENZA – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

POP BUBBLE POP – Forced to steady from heels at the 800m when the overall pace of the event steadied. At the 300m had to be checked, became unbalanced and lost ground when tightened for room to the inside of ENVIRONMENTAL, which was forced inwards by CHILLI BEACH which hung in despite the efforts of its rider.

ZA BUBBLES – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LADY MICAELA – Began slow and awkwardly. Was forced to steady from heels at the 800m when the pace of the event steadied.

SHELLEY CHINA – Rider K. Gates was fined $300 for using her whip over the allowed amount and in a consecutive manner.

ROMAN SILVER – Fractious in barriers and declared a late scratching at 2:19pm by order of the stewards acting on vets advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all moneys invested on ROMAN SILVER be refunded with the following deductions to apply –

0 cents in the dollar for the winner #11
10 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #11
10 cents in the dollar for second place #8
5 cents in the dollar for third place #2


Race 4: PAT MOFFATT MAIDEN PLATE 1460m

LIPS LIKE JAGGER - Slow to begin.

DECIBEL DAN - Steadied from heels at the 1200m when the pace of the race steadied.

CAVALIER KID - Broke down and tailed off over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had injured its near fore tendon. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised she would need to provide a vet clearance prior to the gelding racing again. Ms Cotsiopoulos also reported to stewards the gelding had bled from both nostrils following the event. She was advised that the gelding would be ineligible to race for a period of three months and would be required to complete a satisfactory 1000m gallop prior to racing again.

SOME IDEA – Had to be checked and lost ground near the 300m when tightened for room to the outside of WIG WAM BAM and RED SAGA which were forced wider when CASPERCCINO, which was racing on the fence, was galloped on and became unbalanced and shifted out.

Race 5: TOM ULYATT CLASS B HANDICAP 1460m

EARL OF FORDYCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and had be steadied off heels over the concluding stages.

HAMMERACK – Held up for clear running over the final 100m resulting in jockey N. Evans being unable to ride his mount to the line.

FAST TRACK MAGIC – Upon returning to scales, App. S. Lacy reported that she lost her near side iron when her mount was tightened for room at the start.

ENTER SANDMAN - App. J Hodge was unable to claim his full allowance and was subsequently replaced with App. Guthmann-Chester. App Hodge and was fined $100 under AR.92 (12). Raced wide throughout the event.

LE CHACEL - Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: EJC LIFE MEMBERS' BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1460m

ROCKLEA RAIDER – Slow to begin.

IBELIEVEICANFLY – Upon returning to the scales App. Derbyshire reported to Stewards that the performance of her mount was disappointing, which she attributed to racing wide throughout.

RICH PRIDE – Slow to begin.

GARDER LA FOI - Raced wide throughout.

IT’S ALL IRISH - Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance trainer D. Baker reported to stewards that the gelding was disadvantaged by missing the start and that he felt it races better in a forward position. Mr Baker also commented that he will consider spelling the gelding.
