RACE 1: BIG VALLEY PRODUCE MELBOURNE MARKETS MAIDEN H’CAP – 860M

Due to transport difficulties, apprentice J. Hodge was unable to fulfil his engagement and was replaced by apprentice B. Appo as the rider of MISS BEHAVEN.

SMART CRAFT – Raced very wide throughout and ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

MISS WHIPPY – Slow to begin. Hung out during the middle stages and again momentarily on entering the home straight.

MAITLAND GEM – As the horse had not started since December 2014, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race.

DUBLEO DABBLE – Raced wide without cover.


RACE 2: QUALIPAK FARMS (LOCKYER VALLEY) RATINGS BAND 0-60 H’CAP – 860M

DALIWOY BAY broke through the front of the gates after being fractious in the barriers and galloped riderless for some distance. DALIWOY BAY was declared a late scratching at 12.48 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DALIWOY BAY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

13 cents in the dollar for the Win #10
18 cents in the dollar for place of winner #10
18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
15 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

Trainer T. Dougall was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. Following the event apprentice L. Tilley was examined by the paramedics and found to have injured his wrist. Apprentice Tilley was advised that he will be required to provide a medical clearance before his next riding engagement.

JAGONAL – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice E. Ljung stated that the gelding failed to show any early speed and in her opinion raced flat. Trainer S. Hamilton stated that he felt the drop back in distance today had an effect on the horse’s performance and in view of this it is now the intention to step the horse back up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

FIBRO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

COUNT KAWANA – Inclined to lay in in the home straight. Apprentice M. Murphy was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.

JEPTOO – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the off hind cannon.

PETRANI – As the horse had not started since January 2015, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race. Began awkwardly and was unable to muster any early speed.

TRUST NO ONE – Shifted in of its own accord at the 600m and brushed the running rail.

As Spinks was stood down by the paramedics after his ride in this race, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 3: RAW FRESH SYDNEY MARKETS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

BUDDY HOLLOW – Sustained an abrasion consistent with being galloped on on the near hind leg.

CITY MARKET – Raced extremely wide throughout.

DANCING DERINA – Slow to begin.

DIAMONDS ‘N’ ROSES – Raced wide without cover.

RACE 4: MURPHY PRODUCE SYDNEY MARKETS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

MCGILL – Pushed through the front of the barriers prior to the start, was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.


AHMAH STAR – Slow to begin.

AMBER JET – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

RED COMANDA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

DARE TO DAZZLE – Raced wide throughout.

D. Griffin was stood down by the paramedics following his ride in this event. Jockey Griffin was advised that he will be required to provide a medical clearance before his next riding engagement. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 5: MARENDY PRODUCE BRISBANE MARKETS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M

OUT LATE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

SEQ THE STAR – Slow to begin.

BALKAN BAMBINO – Apprentice J. Hodge dropped his whip at the 100m.

PARADISE PINK – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

CAPSIZED – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 400m.

AUBREY’S ACE – Had to be steadied near the 200m when tightened for room between ITALIAN QUEEN and OUT LATE, which shifted in. Apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of OUT LATE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 6: BACHMANN FARMS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice L. Dittman and trainer J. Zielke, the rider and trainer of GROOMED FOR GLORY, which was placed 6th by the Judge, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against TRIPLE JEOPARDY being placed 2nd. After viewing the videos, they declined to lodge an objection.

SUPER KANGAROO – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Commenced to overrace approaching the 800m, improved on to heels when being steadied and shifted out forcing BLETCHY BOY wider. WIGGLE WIGGLE, which was following, was also inconvenienced in this incident and had to be steadied.

GROOMED FOR GLORY – Raced three wide without cover.

BLETCHY BOY – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced four wide without cover.

JERROCITY – Blundered on jumping away.

WIGGLE WIGGLE – Disappointed for a run over the concluding stages.

RACE 7: LOCKYER PRODUCE CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1600M

CROUPIER – Slow to begin. Lost the off hind plate in running.

NO PROBLEM – Slow to begin.

ISN’T HE A BEAUTY – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice J. Oliver stated that the horse commenced to hang out when placed under pressure from the 500m and in his opinion was entitled to finish the race off better than it did, however was most disappointing. Trainer B. Currie could offer no tangible explanation for the poor performance, however noted that the horse races best when able to lead in its events. Mr Currie added that in light of today’s performance, he will look to drop the horse back in class and in races of a lesser distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

LANDALE – Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice B. Ainsworth was afforded the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. Apprentice Ainsworth stated that the gelding overraced in the early stages and after obtaining cover, settled for the majority of the event until placed under pressure near the 600m and proved most disappointing. She noted that LANDALE’s previous performances at Gatton may suggest that the gelding is not suited by the tight turning track.

MORVEN – Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SHADOW SHOW – Apprentice M. Murphy reported to stewards that it was not his intention to lead, however after being caught three wide in the early stages he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and take up a leading position near the 1100m.

RACE 8: LAVENDER & SONS BRISBANE MARKETS RATINGS BAND 0-60 H’CAP – 1600M

ROSS RIVER – B. Stewart was fine $400 for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Stewart’s poor record in relation to the whip rule.

SAIL THE STARS – Bumped at the start.

CHANTILLY MISS – Connections advised that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell.

RING KING – Overraced in the early stages.

CASHINKO – Shifted in at the start and bumped another runner.

SPUN HARD – Bumped at the start.

CASA CIELLO – Shifted in on jumping away and bumped another runner. Bumped approaching the 400m when SPUN HARD improved on to heels and shifted out. Inconvenienced and had to be restrained a short distance later when SPUN HARD shifted out under riding. S. Apthorpe, the rider of SPUN HARD, was severely reprimanded and advised to show much greater care in similar circumstances.

RACE 9: DAVE PERSHOUSE & ANDREW JACKWITZ FARMS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to consider an application by trainer M. Lakey that BROCSON be declared a non-runner due to that horse’s barrier gates not opening at the same time as the rest of the field’s gates had opened. After viewing the patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that as the horse’s barrier gates had only been marginally slow to open and that this had not materially affected the horse’s chances, it would be declared a runner.

LADY MERCURY – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden off the speed if circumstances permit. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding the horse’s poor performance, apprentice B. Stower advised that the horse raced somewhat flat today, however was forced to race wide throughout the event. She added that in her opinion the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Fitzgerald reported that in light of the poor performance, the horse would be spelled immediately. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

OUR ANGELICA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

LA CHACAL – Shifted wider in the early stages and raced wide and then was allowed to stride forward to take up a position outside the lead near the 800m.
