As D. Griffin was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of DANITES. Jockey Griffin was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Griffin’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

The start of this race was delayed to enable the near hind plate to be refitted to DANETIST upon arriving at the barriers.

RUELLA – Shortly after the start was hampered and lost ground resulting in the filly racing in a rearward position. Overraced for some distance whilst being restrained approaching the 1100m. Approaching the 250m was disappointed for a run between CYCLONE MIA and IBERIAN LACE as a result, shifted out. Stewards questioned jockey L. Tilley in relation to his riding over the concluding stages when approaching the 100m he elected to shift his mount to the inside of IBERIAN LACE rather than attempt a run which presented forward of his mount between IBERIAN LACE and STEADY STAR. Jockey Tilley advised that as IBERIAN LACE had shifted out slightly upon entering the home straight, he was of the view he thought that runner would continue to shift out in the home straight and this was the reason that he was hesitant to improve into the run which presented in front of the filly.  Jockey Tilley added that his mount was not improving at this point in the race and he was of the opinion that the run was closing, so he elected to shift to the inside of IBERIAN LACE. Having viewed the patrol footage, jockey Tilley agreed with the opinion of Stewards that he had erred by not improving into the run when it presented. Stewards noted the explanation and advised jockey Tilley to take all opportunities as they present.
