Racing Queensland Stewards Report

GAYNDAH JOCKEY CLUB: 11thJune 2016.
Weather: Fine Track: Good 3 Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly, C Fedrick
Starter: D Slack
Clerk of Scales: R Bellert
Judge: C Sneider, S Grant
Video Operator: C Wiedemann
Veterinarian: Dr N Hitchcock
Swab Attendant: B Andrews

General: From Race 3 Eidsvold 4th June 2016.
Stewards continued an enquiry into the tactics adopted by App C Bayliss, rider of HAMMERACK, particularly his actions between the 900 metres and the 300 metres. App Bayliss stated his instructions were to be midfield if possible, however after beginning well and being caught wide from the outside draw, he elected to restrain to the tail of the field. He added from the 900 metres the pace of the race was strong and he was reluctant to pressure HAMMERACK at this point of the race. App Bayliss further stated rounding the hometurn he attempted to shift to the outside to obtain clear running but was disappointed for a run and went to the line without being fully tested. After considering all evidence from both App Bayliss and trainer Mr T Dougall, reviewing the race DVD, reviewing betting records from the race, and taking into account his relevant inexperience, App Bayliss agreed he had erred in that leaving the 700 metres he failed to improve his position and trail runners who had commenced to improve into the race at that point. In all circumstances, stewards took the matter no further but did remind C Bayliss that he should not ride in such a manner that would leave himself open to question.

RACE 1: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1000 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the DVD replay to determine if BALKAN BAMBINO, which dislodged App J Hodge on jumping away, was afforded a fair start. On review it was determined that after beginning awkwardly BALKAN BAMBINO shifted out abruptly of its own accord dislodging J Hodge, and was therefore declared a runner. Trainer P Duff was advised a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of the gelding. Correct weight was further delayed to allow I Coombes, rider of 4th placegetter MONTE LAGO to view the photo finish image for 3rd. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

MIDNIGHT CURFEW – raced wide for majority of the event.

OUTBACK LIGHTNING – near 150 metres shifted out hampering MONTE LAGO.

JEPTOO – slow to begin and then raced wide for majority of the event.

MAGIC SQUARE – declared a late scratching at 12:30pm when failed to arrive on course. Trainer R Smith was fined $200 for failing to scratch by prescribed time. In assessing penalty stewards took into account her actions had cost an emergency a start.

MONTE LAGO – hampered near 150 metres and shortly after obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.

RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres

COALBANK CAVIAR – fractious in saddling enclosure and then dislodged rider during preliminary, galloped for a significant distance, and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2:07pm. On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on COALBANK CAVIAR refunded with win bets paid less 6 cents win and 7 cents place face value of tickets. Trainer B Hudson was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners.

BURKETOWN LARRIKIN – fractious in the saddling enclosure, kicked by clerk of course pony, made heavy contact with enclosure gate when moving onto the track, examined by Club vet on arrival at start and passed fit to run. RACE 3: CLASS B HDCP 1200 Metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight and following a review of the photo finish image, the Judge sought to amend the original semaphored placings of 2 – 11 – 1 – 10. Stewards, in company with the Judge, viewed the available photo finish image and acting under AR156(1) the Judge then amended the placings to read 2 – 11 – 10 – 1 and correct weight declared.

MISTER LOOSEEL – raced greenly leaving the 500 metres, shifted in of its own accord and made heavy contact with the running rail. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: GAYNDAH OPEN CUP HDCP 1400 Metres

Prior to declaration of correct weight Mr B Hudson, trainer of 4th placegetter OUR CLARKY, viewed the DVD replay regarding an incident approaching the 100 metres. After doing so Mr Hudson lodged a protest against 3rd getter SPICE OF LIFE alleging interference approaching the 100 metres. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the video replay stewards found that UNBOWED, which was racing to the inside of OUR CLARKY, shifted out under pressure at that point and made contact with OUR CLARKY, which in turn was taken out and bumped SPICE OF LIFE. Stewards subsequently dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

SPICE OF LIFE – slow to begin and raced wide for the majority. Bumped by OUR CLARKY approaching the 100 metres.

UNBOWED – hung out rounding the hometurn and approaching the 100 metres shifted out and bumped OUR CLARKY.
