ALL ABOUT LEWIS – Approaching the 100m when struck with the whip, shifted in abruptly and bumped BONNIE GEE GEE.
BOOM KING – Began very awkwardly, jumped out and made heavy contact with outside barrier partition and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
ON THE TARGET – When asked to comment, rider C. Bayliss explained the horse was somewhat awkward in its during the middle stages of the event, however when placed under full pressure passing the 150m, the gelding responded to his riding and finished the race off strongly.
PASSING OUT – Slow to begin and was then unable to muster speed in the early stages.
BONNIE GEE GEE – Approaching the 100m was bumped when ALL ABOOUT LEWIS shifted in when struck with the whip. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. Jockey M. Cahill advised he was of the opinion the horse may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. Co trainer Trent Edmonds advised the stable would consider adding a tongue tie to the horses approved gear going forward.
Race 2: JW MARRIOTT GOLD COAST RESORT & SPA Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
BLUSHING LUCAS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
DOMINANCE – Jockey D. Peisley, rider of DOMINANCE was fined $400 under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four more times than permitted.
BAILEY BOO – After being crossed by runners passing the 1000m BAILEY BOO lost ground despite the efforts of its rider. Rider Andrew Spinks reported at scale that he was of the opinion the horse resented the kickback at that point and he therefore elected to shift wider on the track to avoid any further kickback from that point. Trainer J. Mott advised stewards he concurred with the comments of A. Spinks and advised stewards it was his intention not to race the horse on the synthetic track going forward. Acting on this undertaking, stewards took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GOLDEN SHAO – Blundered shortly after the start and lost ground.
MY DOG DIESEL – Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Cahill, rider of MY DOG DIESEL, was reprimanded under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
Race 3: THE KB Maiden Handicap 1900 metres
RENEWED IMPACT – Caught wide in the early stages and restrained to a rearward position near the 1600m. Forced wider on the track from the 800m. When asked to comment, rider M. Cahill advised it was not his intention to settle so far back in the field today, however after being caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to settle in a rearward position. He added he was able to work into the race leaving the 800m but was forced wider on the track from that point when riders to his inside shifted out to improve into the race. M. Cahill added in his opinion RENEWED IMPACT may not have backed up from its most recent start at the Gold Coast on the 24th of June 2023. Stewards noted his explanation.
LOVELY THOUGHTS – Jumped out at the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. Approaching the 400m, laid in and had to be steadied from the heels of MR REDDINGTON. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SUPER FENKEL – Began awkwardly.
PAINFUL – Jumped in at the start.
DARABAZ – Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider Andrew Spinks reported it was not his intention to lead, however after beginning well and being caught wide in the early stages, the horse was inclined to lay out, adding that it was for this reason he allowed DARABAZ to stride forward and lead the event from the 1200m.
SUBVERSIVE – Slow to begin. Rounding the home turn, momentarily improved onto the heels of DARABAZ and had to be steadied.
Race 4: THE PACIFIC WEST Class 1 Handicap 1900 metres
TEA LEAVES – Leaving the 700m, improved into a narrow run to the inside of BOSTON OF TUFFY, which laid out marginally and to the inside of JAKAT and raced in restricted room for some distance between those runners. As a result, near the 500m, JAKAT was crowded for room and had to be steadied when TEA LEAVES laid in. N. Callow, rider of TEA LEAVES, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Held up for clear running approaching the 400m.
BOSTON OF TUFFY – When asked to comment on the performance rider J Guthmann-Chester advised the horse raced flat today and was disappointing when placed under pressure from the 600m, adding that in his opinion the horse had not backed up from its most recent start on 24th June 2023. Trainer P. Robl reported this was the horse’s fifth start in a 6 week period, and in light of today’s disappointing performance BOSTON OF TUFFY would now be sent for an immediate spell.
JAKAT – Crowded for room and had to be steadied approaching the 400m.
PATTI WAGGIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LAGO DI BRAIES – Slow to begin. Near the 350m, held up on the heels of the tiring BOSTON OF TUFFY and had to be restrained.
GENERAL WOLFFE – Dropped his whip passing the 100m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted when leading the event, Jockey Andrew Spinks advised it was not his intention to lead however after being caught wide in the early and middle stages he elected to allow GENERAL WOLFFE to stride forward from the 1200m. Trainer R. Cameron confirmed the instructions issued. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5: THE STOREY BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1200 metres
EMMY REGINA – Jockey N. Callow reported with the drop back in distance today, the horse was not suited by the fast early pace of the race, adding during the middle stages EMMY REGINA resented the sand kickback and when placed under pressure in the home straight and finished the race off only fairly.
MENSA MAESTRO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BADGERS NUTS – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly the amount of pressure applied when racing outside the leader from the 1000m to the 600m, Apprentice J. Williams stated instructions were to lead if possible and to maintain momentum in the early and middle stages which is the horses preferred racing style. He added after being slow to begin he was obliged to ride BADGERS NUTS with vigour to comply with the instructions, adding that when placed under pressure at the entrance of the home straight, the horse was disappointing. Co trainer T. Button confirmed the instructions issued adding that he was of the opinion BADGERS NUTS would derive significant fitness benefit from today’s race. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – When asked to comment on his riding of the horse in the home straight, Apprentice Jockey B. Wheeler said he pressured the horse from the 350m and passing the 200m was of the opinion the horse was not responding to his riding. He added near the 50m the horse began to respond to his hands and heels riding and he applied the whip from that point onwards. Stewards noted his explanation. B. Wheeler was fined $300 pursuant to rule AR 132(6)(e) for using his whip on one occasion after passing the winning post.
Race 6: THE LUMP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1100 metres
GET WHAT YOU GIVE – Slow to begin.

Continued to over race and near the 900m when being restrained, shifted in, and bumped PEAK ROAD. Raced wide from the 700m. Forced wider rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, Jockey N. Callow advised instructions were to ride the horse with cover as it tends to over race, however, in hindsight he was of the opinion he would have been better served to allow the horse to stride forward from the 1200m rather than continue to restrain at that point. Trainer G. Doughty confirmed the instructions issued adding that today the pace of the race in the middle stages did not suit the racing pattern of AGENT OF MAYHEM. Stewards noted the explanation of both parties. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
DOM TYCOON – Near the 1200m, over raced when being restrained to obtain cover. Forced wider rounding the home turn. Near the 300m disappointed for a run between PALATIAL PRINCE and ALL THE SHOPS which shifted out before being obliged to shift to the inside to secure clear running.
