GENERAL

As Jockey G Colless was stood down by the club doctor following the running of Race 5, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:-

Race 7 – TARLOSHAN – App. B Appo;
Race 8 – SANKARA SPIRIT – App. J Orman (no senior rider available – unable to claim).

Race 1: Waxy’s Irish Pub Open H’cap – 2200m
1st – Uno Five 2nd – Cramming 3rd – Ranked 4th – Meteorologist

CRAMMING - Passing the 1000m attempted to shift out to improve and in doing so bumped ONGOING VENTURE on a number of occasions and as a consequence was unable to improve until leaving the 700m.

ONGOING VENTURE – Leaving the 1000m bumped on a number of occasions by CRAMMING.

Race 2: XXXX Summer QTIS 2YO Plate – 1200m
1st – Spot the Diff 2nd – Double Superlative 3rd – Red Wayne 4th – Daunting Lass

DAUNTING LASS - Began awkwardly. Leaving the 700m had to be checked from heels when the tempo slowed. Approaching the 100m shifted out and away from another runner.

RED WAYNE - Leaving the 700m improved onto the heels of SOCIAL CONQUEST and checked. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.

THUNDER RAIDER - Approaching the 100m shifted out and away from another runner.

SOCIAL CONQUEST - A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer T Gollan advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

RED HANDLE - A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer T Gollan advised that the filly would now be sent for a spell.

Race 3: Helensvale Tavern F&M Class 6 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Where’s Thatdragon 2nd – Pearly Court 3rd – Awesome Sight 4th – Promas

PROMAS - Slow to begin.

KATELETTE - Began awkwardly.

PRADNYA – Forced to race wide during the early stages and ridden vigorously to obtain a forward position closer to the rail.

WHERE’S THATDRAGON – Forced to race wide during the early stages and pressed forward to the lead.

PANTALETTES - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Passing the 250m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MAX IT OUT.

LEGAL ASSISTANT - Raced wide throughout.

TALON LADY - Jockey G Colless reported that the horse hung out during the middle stages.

AWESOME SIGHT - Held up rounding the home turn.

MAX IT OUT – Jockey T Harrison was at a loss to explain today’s performance. Trainer T Gollan was also unable to explain today’s disappointing performance and undertook to report back to stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

SPIRIT OF HEAVEN – When questioned as to the performance, Jockey M Cahill stated that he was obliged to pressure the mare from the 800m at which point it failed to improve into the race as expected. Jockey Cahill added that the mare commenced to respond to his riding upon straightening and finished the race off well and in his opinion would be better suited over further distances. Trainer D Forster reported that she would now consider adding blinkers or winkers on the mare at its next race start, where she would most likely step the mare up to a mile.

App. B Appo (KATELETTE) was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

After the running of Race 3, the track was upgraded to a Good 3.


Race 4: XXXX QTIS 3YO H’cap – 1800m
1st – Soldier of War 2nd – Emphasis 3rd – Subsolar 4th – Lady Athena

SIENNA SON - Slow to begin.

SUBSOLAR - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room. Leaving the 200m disappointed for a run and was then held up on the heels of another runner before shifting out and securing clear running over the final 150m.

MR EPIC - When questioned as to the performance App. McGillivray stated that despite being forced to race wide early, he was content to stride forward to take up a handy position, however, the gelding was under pressure leaving the 700m and proved disappointing. App. McGillivray was of the view that the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer T Edmonds confirmed that the gelding would be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

THERMAL UNIT - Raced wide during the early stages.

SOLDIER OF WAR - Held up rounding the home turn.

REALLY SURE – Held up for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.


Race 5: XXXX Gold Australian Pale Ale One Metro Win-Last Year H’cap – 1800m
1st – Walhaan 2nd – Tracey’s Angel 3rd – Collar 4th – Mishani Stealth

LEVER LEVER – Connections advised the gelding would be ridden further back in the field today. Ridden accordingly. Leaving the 1300m commenced to over-race and approaching the 1200m shifted out and made contact with BUAKAW.

PUTAPAVONIT - Slow to begin.

MOON AND THE STARS - Slow to begin.

WALHAAN - Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room.

HOW CAN I HELP - Raced wide during the early stages.

BUAKAW - Leaving the 1200m bumped and taken wider on the track. Trainer M Lakey reported that the gelding pulled up lame in the off hind leg. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to the gelding’s next race start.

COLLAR - Over-raced for the majority of event.

SECRET TRYST - Held up during the early stages of the home straight.

KURTLEY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to its next race start.

Jockey R Wiggins (HOW CAN I HELP) was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Jockey K Stanley (TRACEY’S ANGEL) was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 6: Coolangatta Hotel BenchMark 75 H’cap - 1200m
1st – Urban Knight 2nd – Rainbow Magic 3rd – Beau Jet 4th – Mark’s Legacy

Trainer B Andrew was fined the sum of $200 for the late declaration of App. J Pracey-Holmes on CHARGE MISSILE.

Trainer D Hansen was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of T Harrison on URBAN KNIGHT.

CHARGE MISSILE - Hampered at the start and lost ground.

FAICONI - Began awkwardly. Jockey J Lloyd reported that the mare failed to stretch out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have cast its near fore plate in running.

ELUSIVE CATCH - Slow to begin.

NEVETUS – Near the 1000 shifted in and steadied from the heels of DREAM OF SLIPS. Raced wide throughout.

ALDINI - Passing the 900m steadied when placed in restricted room.

ASSERTORY - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.

NAKANAI - Raced wide throughout.

NOTONYOURLIFE – When questioned regarding the performance Jockey J Byrne stated that the mare failed to respond to his riding from the 700m and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from the thumps.

Race 7: The Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes – 1200m
1st – Casual Choice 2nd – Sir Moments 3rd – Mahican 4th – Le Val

As G Goold was indisposed through injury, he was replaced on FLAMBOYER by App. B Stower.

SIR MOMENTS - Bumped at the start and lost ground.

ROCK ROYALTY - Began awkwardly shifted in and bumped SIR MOMENTS. Raced wide throughout.

FLAMBOYER - Bumped at the start. Approaching the 200m bumped by SIR MOMENTS.

TIGER TEES - Bumped at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cast its near fore plate and to be lame in its near fore leg. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to its next race start.

LE CAP - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which weakened noticeably in the home straight revealed a speedy cut to the near fore pastern.

MR FAVULOUS – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Jockey C Dell reported that his saddle slipped back shortly after the start placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

WHISKEY ALLROUND - Raced wide throughout. Forced wider rounding the home turn.

MAHICAN - Held up rounding the home turn. Over the concluding stages bumped by SIR MOMENTS and had to be steadied from the heels of CASUAL CHOICE.

KEMPELLY - Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run and obliged to check back in to secure clear running.

LE VAL - Bumped by SIR MOMENTS near the 150m.

Jockey P Hammersley pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in over the concluding stages making contact with MAHICAN and as a consequence MAHICAN became unbalanced, shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of CASUAL CHOICE. Jockey Hammersley was suspended from riding in races for 8 days to commence midnight 16/03/2016 and to expire midnight 24/03/2016.

Jockey R Wiggins (MAHICAN) was fined $500 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Jockey B Stewart (LE VAL) will be interviewed at a later date regarding his use of the whip prior to the 100m.


Race 8: Currumbin Creek Tavern C,G & E Class 6 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Tan Tat Diamond 2nd – L’Entrecote 3rd – Wild ‘N’ Famous 4th – Punta Norte

YOUWAITANDSEE - Stood flat-footed when the start was effected and lost ground.

REUNITE - Slow to begin.

MARSHAL - Began awkwardly.

RICHARD THE FIRST - Began awkwardly. Checked when tightened for room over the concluding stages and lost ground.

BROTHERLY SECRET - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Checked when tightened for room over the concluding stages and lost ground.

PUNTA NORTE - Raced wide throughout. Over concluding stages bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

RED DYNAMITE - Leaving the 500m lost ground when tightened for room by ALLKNIGHT SAINT which laid in. Hung out in the home straight.

L’ENTRECOTE - Held up in the early stages of the home straight to a point near the 200m.

SANKARA SPIRIT - Had difficulty securing clear running from the 200m to the 100m.

BASIC STRATEGY –Inconvenienced over concluding stages.

DESERT GENERAL - Inconvenienced approaching the winning post.

Jockey J Lloyd (WILD ‘N’ FAMOUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out over the concluding stages when insufficiently clear of DESERT GENERAL which was taken out on to BROTHERLY SECRET which in turn was taken out onto RICHARD THE FIRST. As a consequence both BROTHERLY SECRET and RICHARD THE FIRST had to be checked severely. Jockey Lloyd was suspended from riding in races for 11 days to commence midnight 12/03/2016 and to expire midnight 23/03/2016. In determining penalty stewards were mindful of the severity of the interference.

Jockey M Cahill (DESERT GENERAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out passing the 100m resulting in BROTHERLY SECRET being taken out onto RICHARD THE FIRST which had to be checked to avoid the heels of PUNTA NORTE. Jockey Cahill was suspended from riding in races for 8 days to commence midnight 12/03/2016 and to expire midnight 20/03/2016. In determining penalty stewards were mindful of Jockey Cahill’s exemplary record.

Jockey B Pengelly (ALLKNIGHT SAINT) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
