Jockey McMahon stated that he was instructed not to ride the gelding vigorously in the early stages as it had been inclined to over-race in its work and trial leading into today’s event. McMahon added that after beginning only fairly from the wide barrier the gelding failed to muster the necessary speed to take up a forward position which resulted in him being obliged to race in a wide mid-field position without cover. Jockey McMahon further added that upon straightening the gelding failed to respond to his riding as expected and peaked on its run over the final 100m. Jockey McMahon noted that the gelding was having its first start in over 2 years and with the wide run may have been lacking condition but would derive a fitness benefit from today’s run. Trainer M Dunn confirmed the instructions as he had expected the gelding to lead today despite starting from the wide barrier and agreed that being caught wide first up from a lengthy spell may have contributed to the gelding’s disappointing performance. Nonetheless, Jockey McMahon was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race and not leave his riding open to question in future. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.Race 6: Fuso Fighter Class 2 H’cap – 1800m1st – Buckin The Blues 2nd – Marlene Adele 3rd – Sky Brook 4th – Good IntentionsThe start was delayed when JIMMY HOFFA was fractious in the barriers and got its off fore leg over the partition. Jockey M McGuren (BUCKIN THE BLUES) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 7: Fuso Heavy Trucks Class 5 H’cap – 1400m1st – Polynikes 2nd – Phast Lad 3rd – Road to the Bay 4th – Champagne TalesFLYING CHARGER was a late withdrawal at 1.45pm by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer M Dunn was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the gelding races again.LORD LONHRO - Slow to begin. When questioned as to the tactics and overall performance of the gelding, App. M Murphy stated that after beginning slowly he was required to ride the gelding along in the early stages to obtain its customary forward position. App. Murphy added that after obtaining the lead near the 900m the gelding was travelling comfortably and as such he was content to allow it to stride along. Whilst conceding that he may have erred in failing to restrain the gelding once it did obtain the lead, he was nonetheless disappointed with the way in which it compounded over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory sound. The stable undertook to have an endoscopic examination performed, the results of which would be reported to Stewards.MAJESTIC SOUND - Bumped at the start and a short distance later eased when tightened for room.WHATAWALTZ - Began awkwardly and in doing so bumped another runner.Jockey P Timbery (ROAD TO THE BAY) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Jockey B Evans was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.TIME TO TORQUE – When questioned as to the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey B Evans stated that he was instructed to obtain a mid-field position with cover and for this reason elected to settle behind ACCORD. Jockey Evans added that it was not the stable’s intention to have the gelding ridden in a handy position at its last start. Jockey Evans further added that once he elected to settle behind ACCORD, runners positioned wider on the track elected to press forward resulting in him being positioned further back than anticipated. GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS – When questioned as to the tactics adopted when leading today, Jockey L Rolls stated that he was instructed to pressure the gelding out of the barriers as it had previously been slow to muster speed. Jockey Rolls added that as a result the gelding mustered speed quickly and he elected to continue riding it along to obtain a forward position. Jockey Rolls further added that once the gelding obtained the lead it failed to settle despite his efforts. Trainer M Eggleston confirmed the instructions but that it was not his intention for the horse to lead today but to settle in a mid-field position. Jockey B Evans (TIME TO TORQUE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out rounding the home turn when insufficiently clear of ACCORD causing that horse to be checked when taken out onto the heels of CASINO CENTURY. Jockey Evans was suspended from riding in races for 12 days to commence midnight 26/03/2016 and to expire midnight 7/04/2016.
