GENERAL:

As App L. Tilley was indisposed due to illness and App L. Dittman to personal reasons stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards Ray Day Summary.

Gold Coast – Race 8 18 June 2016

Trainer T Edmonds reported that RAFFINATO had pulled up well following its disappointing performance. Mr Edmonds was at a loss to explain the performance except to say that the mare may not have been entirely comfortable in the soft conditions. Mr Edmonds also noted that RAFFINATO would be better suited over further distances where it would be able to settle closer to the lead.


RACE 1: SKY RACING MAIDEN PLATE – 900M
1st – You Little Thief 2nd – Isn’t He Brilliant 3rd – Rock On Destiny 4th – In Taiwan

The start was delayed when ISN’T HE BRILLIANT proved difficult to load. Trainer B. Herne was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s barrier manners.

WHEN IN DOUBT – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Inconvenienced approaching the 600m.

GOOD GRACIOUS MAE – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid the heels of KAIZARI leaving the 600m.

KAIZARI – Slow to begin. Leaving the 600m had to steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of GOLD JACKET.

GOLD JACKET – Slow to begin.

ROCK ON DESTINY – Raced greenly in the middle stages, had to be steadied and shifted out abruptly approaching 600m.

BROOKAJOE – Raced 5 wide without cover throughout.

FROM ST ANDREWS – Raced wide throughout.

RACE 2: SKY RACING MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Cheval Le Vent 2nd – Lady Manhattan 3rd – Excitement Levels 4th – Another Listing

SANJAY – Slipped over in the tie-up stalls prior to the race, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

CHEVAL LE VENT – Began awkwardly. Crowded for room shortly after the start.

ANOTHER LISTING – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start had to be steadied and in doing so became unbalanced and lost ground.

ROLLOVER NINE – Raced 3 wide for the majority.

MORINGA’S COQUETTE – Jockey G. Goold reported at scale that his mount was making an abnormal respiratory noise and did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed a significant amount of nasal discharge. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the filly racing again.

RACE 3: SKY RACING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M
1st – Emvepee 2nd – Prolific Belle 3rd – Eminent Knight 4th – Grand Dazzler

VOANABA – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow into stride. Lost a near fore plate in running.

EMINENT KNIGHT – Inclined to hang in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

GRAND DAZZLER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

EMVEPEE – Raced wide throughout.

OUR FELICE - Raced wide throughout.

PROLIFIC BELLE - On return to scale App J. Orman reported that the filly raced greenly for the majority of the race.
Following the running of this event stewards reassessed the track and downgraded it to a Soft 5 retrospective.

RACE 4: SKY RACING RATINGS BAND 0-65 H’CAP – 1400M
1st – Cocoa Bar 2nd – Pinball Dawn 3rd – Catenaccio 4th – Captain Eyche

OVERRULE which competed in a race at Gympie Turf Club on Saturday 25 June 2016 was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the race and cleared to start.

RED HOT ELEMENT – Trainer T. Bailey advised the horse would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

JUST KEEP GIVING – Began awkwardly.

PINBALL DAWN – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the outside barrier gate and lost ground.

MISHANI FORBIDDEN – Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 200m.

RACE 5: BARTERCARD AUSTRALIA RATINGS BAND 0-65 H’CAP – 1400M
1st – Basic Strategy 2nd – Best Dance Yet 3rd – Had Me At Hello 4th – Amata

AMATA – Lunged at the gates just prior to the start being effected.

GRESELIN – Slow to begin.

SNITZEL’S BELLE – Slow to begin.

MINKUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to explain the seemingly disappointing performance App C. Schmidt stated that the horse enjoyed a comfortable run leading up to the home turn however, when placed under pressure failed to run on as expected and in her opinion was disappointing. App Schmidt further added that the horse may not have been comfortable on today’s surface. Trainer B. Herne advised stewards he was disappointed with the mare’s performance today and it is now his intention to give the horse a freshen up. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

ALBERT’S CHOICE – Overraced in the early stages.

ROLLING ROMAN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

BEST DANCE YET – Raced wide throughout. Lost an off fore plate in running.

RACE 6: SKY RACING CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Rainbow Magic 2nd – Brigadoon Legend 3rd – Belflyer 4th – Saint Hugo

The start was delayed when RISING LUCK shifted its off front plate and required farrier attention. After being replated the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when BELFLYER was kicked by another runner. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon was cleared to start.

BELFLYER – Slow to begin.

SHOWER OF HEARTS – Commenced to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be stepping short in front. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse racing again.

App B. Ainsworth (SAINT HUGO) was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right to the finish line.


RACE 7: SKY RACING CLASS 3 H’CAP - 900M
1st – Stellarcraft 2nd – Lilly The Filly 3rd – Little Capri 4th – Media Maid

MEDIA MAID – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

LILLY THE FILLY – After beginning fairly was unable to muster any early speed.

LITTLE CAPRI – Blundered of its own accord leaving the 500m. Jockey R. McMahon lost the use of his off side rein for a short distance leaving the 100m.

HIDDEN LOVE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 150m and went to the line without being fully tested.

GO BETTER – Raced wide throughout.

GENERATE – Raced 6 wide without cover throughout.

RACE 8: SKY RACING RATINGS BAND 0-70 H’CAP – 1800M
1st – Magnatune 2nd – Chasing The Dragon 3rd – Cool Water 4th – Light Motion

COOL WATER – Slow to begin.

LIGHT MOTION – Slow to begin.

MAGNATUNE – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

PRIZE – Raced wide throughout.

App R. Johnston-Bell (MAGNATUNE) was fined $200.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

THE WACO KID – Jockey M. Cahill was struck in the head by a bird which had flown into his path near the 1500m, placing him at a disadvantage for a short distance. When asked to explain the performance jockey Cahill advised that the horse travelled well up to and leaving the 800m however, once placed under pressure failed to run on and in his view was disappointing. He further added that the gelding may not have been comfortable in today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B. Lockwood advised stewards he was disapointed with the geldings performance and will be having further examinations performed which he will forward any findings to the stewards.

GO ON RED – When asked to comment on the performance jockey R. Wiggins explained that the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable in today’s track conditions and it was having its first start over a distance this preparation. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.


RACE 9: SKY RACING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Georgio 2nd – Harley Hog 3rd – Plouc 4th – Egiptienne

SMOOTH TRUTH was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2.10 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to the filly racing again.

WATER BOY – Trainer J. Morrisey advised the intention would be to ride the gelding in a midfield position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced wide throughout.

GRECIAN SUMMER – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow into stride.

THE MONK – When overracing approaching and passing the 600m had to be restrained from the heels of EGIPTIENNE.

HARLEY HOG – Had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages which resulted in the gelding racing wide.

BANCROFT – Jockey J. Lloyd reported to stewards that when being unable to obtain cover the gelding commenced to overrace and as a result raced wide from approaching the 500m onwards.
