From Doomben Meeting Saturday 1/10/2016 – Race 4

R. Fradd the rider of BOURBON ROAD was fined $200.00 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

GIULIANI – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance App J. Oliver stated his intention was to obtain a forward position however, after beginning on terms with the rest of the field the gelding failed to muster the necessary speed.  App Oliver stated that he was then concerned that he would be caught wide in the early stages so elected to restrain the gelding to obtain a position with cover.  App Oliver added that despite travelling well in that position the gelding failed to respond when asked for an effort and proved disappointing.  Trainer T. Gollan undertook to have an endoscopy performed on the gelding, the results of which will be forwarded to stewards.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

OUR ROCKY – When questioned regarding the tactics App B. Ainsworth stated that it was always her intention to take up a rear position.  App Ainsworth added that in consultation with trainer T. Green it was agreed that the gelding performs best when able to improve to the outside of the field and for this reason when the tempo slowed leaving the 800m she elected to shift 3 wide to improve into the race.  After confirming the instructions with Mrs Green stewards noted the explanation.
