RACE 3: Amalgamated Painting Services Fillies & Mares Ratings Band 0-60 Handicap – 1200m

HIDDEN LOVE – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ADOBE MIST – Stewards questioned jockey C. Whiteley regarding the tactics adopted on the mare. He explained that the mare was resuming after a lengthy spell and had trialled before resuming today. He said in the early stages the mare had some difficulty maintaining  its position over the shorter distance and in the middle stages was inclined to drop the bit, requiring him to niggle it along. When asked regarding his riding approaching and rounding the home turn jockey Whiteley stated with the small field a run and would save ground rather than going widest. He said on straightening he was confident a run would present itself between HARIIR and HIDDEN LOVE however, when this did not eventuate he had no option but to shift out wide where he then placed the mare under full pressure, resulting in it closing off the race nicely. Stewards advised jockey Whiteley his riding, particularly on the home turn, had come under notice and he would be expected to show more urgency in the similar circumstances.

INVINCIBOY – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up rounding the turn and bumped with SPUR ME PURPLE to secure clear running.

KOA NUNI – Slow into stride.

NICQUILITY – When overracing had to be restrained from heels near the 1000m. OUR BOY PENDLES – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start.

OMISSION – Checked when crowded after the 1100m.

MASSIVE ATTACK - Trainer G. Stephens was given the opportunity to explain the apparent improved performance of the horse. Mr Stephens advised at the previous start the horse, in his opinion, was not suited by the engagement of an apprentice rider on that occasion and also on that day the track had received some rain prior to the race and it was the jockeys opinion that the horse had not appreciated the track that day. He advised the horse does not perform well at the Toowoomba or Clifton tracks. He added that the horse performs best at Ipswich or the Gold Coast despite its last start. He further added the horse appreciates firm track conditions and with a senior rider engaged today he was somewhat confident of it performing better. He further tendered evidence of his moderate support for the horse, which is in line with a similar wager he had on the horse at its last start. Mr Stephens was advised that the horses win today it was somewhat a reversal of its previous performances and stewards advised on the evidence tendered they would not be expect to see the horse entered at the Toowoomba racecourse in the near future.
