RACE 3: Cole Diesel Memorial Class 4 Handicap – 1200m
1st: Amenzel 2nd: Go the Gantry 3rd: Viadructress 4th: Sugar Ray Red

AMENZEL which was kicked behind the barriers prior to being loaded was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place.

VIADUCTRESS – Slow to begin. Over the final 50m improved onto heels and had to be restrained and went to the line without being fully tested. When questioned regarding the riding of the mare, Jockey S Galloway explained that the mare has a tendency of being slow away and as such, she raced in a position which is its normal racing pattern. He felt he improved into the race approaching the home turn and as the mare had 59kgs he was attempting to secure runs through the field rather than coming to the outside. Approaching the 100m he felt there was an opportunity to obtain a run to the inside of GO THE GANTRY and to the outside of AMENZEL. With the impost of 59kgs the mare was unable to quicken as he would have liked into the run and when AMENZEL shifted out slightly and GO THE GANTRY laid in slightly, he was obliged to steady from heels when the run had closed. Stewards further questioned whether an opportunity was available for Jockey Galloway to shift back to the inside to obtain a clear run. Jockey Galloway explained that he had already committed himself to the outside of the heels of AMENZEL and therefore was of the opinion that at this stage of the event it was too late to restrain and shift back to the inside.

SUGAR RAY RED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, Jockey A Allen stated that after having a reasonably tough run being caught wide throughout it failed to run on over the concluding stages. He also expressed his opinion that the track may have been too firm for the mare today.

LYRIDS – When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey Galloway explained that the gelding races well early in its campaign and today being its third run in, failed to travel throughout the event and in his opinion is now looking for races longer than that of today’s event.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R Lyford was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its poor performance as it was beaten 22 lengths.

WALL OF SILENCE - Passing the 1100m had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider tightening MILITARY EXPRESS which in turn was forced in on to MISS SEVERINA which had to be restrained from heels and shifted in tightening SONIC QUILL which had to be restrained away from heels. He further added that the horse was first up from a spell today and would benefit from the run and appreciate a step-up in journey and may not have liked the firm surface of today’s event.

LOVE YA MRS – Following the race Jockey S Bogenhuber reported that it was not her intention to obtain the lead but after beginning well she allowed the gelding to stride forward without pressure.
