Subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Jockey R Plumb reported at scale that as his mount did not feel comfortable in its action, he was therefore reluctant to place the mare under pressure once entering the home straight and was eventually eased out of the event near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. A swab sample was taken. Trainer C Munce was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance. He added that he would now send the mare for an immediate spell. Stewards advised Trainer C Munce that the mare would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to returning to racing. SHRAPELLI - Began awkwardly and lost ground. ODINS FOLLY - Slow to begin. IM CHAUNCEY - Began awkwardly and made contact with SHINSTAR. Jockey N Thomas reported at scale that in his opinion the mare failed to handle the track conditions and may have also resented racing with a cross-over noseband which was on for the first time. Tightened for room near the 800m. A short distance later had to be checked and lost its position. ROSSMAY - Checked shortly after the start when tightened for room. Near the 800m bumped and placed in restricted room. A short distance later near the 700m forced inwards. MISS FIALKA - Raced 3 wide during the early stages before obtaining a position with cover near the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg. Stable representative was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start. ARC LIGHT – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer B Baldwin explained that the mare was having its first race start for his stable. He added that when ARC LIGHT first arrived at his stable he was advised that the mare had some poor racing characteristics which led to poor performances. He further added that these characteristics had improved under his care resulting in the mare performing well in 3 recent jump-outs. Jockey C Franklin (MISS FIALKA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 700m tightening runners to his inside and then failed to relieve that pressure which resulted in ROSSMAY being forced in, causing FESTIVE REWARD to be checked and relinquish its position. Jockey Franklin was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 28/08/18 and to expire midnight 05/09/18. GENERAL ASSAULT - Hampered and forced wider near the 1600m and after being caught 3 wide was allowed to press forward to obtain the lead near the 1200m. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer K Loy explained that the gelding was having its second start for the stable and she was of the view that the gelding would appreciate today’s track conditions and the step-up in distance. Stewards noted her comments. Jockey A Spinks (GENERAL ASSAULT) was fined the sum of $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
