QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION Race Day Stewards Report Aquis Thoroughbreds Date: 29 February 2020 Track: Good 4; After Race 1, downgraded to Soft 5 retrospectively Penetrometer: 4.65 Weather: Overcast/showery Rail: +8m 1400-W/Post; +4m remainder Stewards Panel: N. Gray (Swab Officials), L. Stokes (Secretary) Race 1 – Tradelink Bathroom, Kitchen & Laundry QTIS 2YO Class 1 Plate – 900m SHES A TIGRESS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. LEADBURN NICCI – Began awkwardly. MISHANI REBEL – Began awkwardly. WHY NOT ME – Slow to begin. Due to the light rainfall prior to the start and during the running of this event, Stewards downgraded the track to a Soft 5 retrospectively, following the event. Race 2 – Tradelink Plumbing Supplies F&M Class 2 Handicap – 1200m IAMICAN – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m when the pace steadied, improved onto the heels of BEAT ZA DRUM and had to be shifted wider on the course. BEAT ZA DRUM – After being caught three wide in a midfield position, was ridden forward in an attempt to obtain a position one wide. Passing the 900m was bumped on a number of occasions by DECISIVE HEART which was endeavouring to shift out from the rail position to a one wide position but was unable to do so. Approaching the 300m bumped by DECISIVE HEART which was attempting to shift out to improve. ANGELS LOVE – Passing the 700m improved onto the heels of IAMICAN and resented being restrained and raced ungenerously for a few strides. Raced wide rounding the home turn. DECISIVE HEART – Passing the 700m when the pace steadied, commenced to over-race and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions. MYSTIC EYES – Approaching the 200m when placed under pressure, laid in causing its rider to stop riding and straighten and again approaching the 100m, laid in under pressure causing its rider to stop riding and straighten. HANNAHS SONG – Passing the 100m raced in restricted room when MYSTIC EYES laid in. Race 3 – Tradelink Laundries C,G&E Maiden Handicap – 1400m As Jockey A. Chau was to be overweight, he was replaced on NICOSMILE by Jockey L. Cheshire. Jockey Chau was fined the sum of $200 under AR190(3). EUROKING – Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin. DANSDALE – Bumped on jumping. PITTSBURGH PHIL – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 1000m after being crossed by LORD MINTY, commenced to over-race and had to be restrained from the heels of that runner on a number of occasions. GO DARCY – After passing the 1100m when in a trailing position, commenced to over-race and resented being restrained and threw its head in the air until a point passing the 700m. SILVERBROOK LAD – Approaching the 900m improved onto the heels of PITTSBURGH PHIL and had to be shifted three wide to avoid that runners heels before obtaining cover again passing the 700m. BOSENDI – Held up for clear running from the 450m until approaching the 250m. Race 4 – Tradelink Hot Water F&M Maiden Handicap – 1400m RED VEGAS – Had to be resaddled after arriving at the barrier. Shortly after the start was reluctant to muster speed and was unable to remain in touch with the main body of the field and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer V. Coombes advised Stewards that she will have her veterinary surgeon conduct some tests, the results of which will be reported to Stewards. Stewards advised Trainer V. Coombes that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. RADICAL SPIRIT – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground. ST JUST – Began awkwardly unbalancing its rider. Rounding the home turn was disappointed for a run to the inside of MOZARTS MUSE and to the outside of VANDAR LOOM and was held up and laid in when attempting to come to the outside of JUST WISHING. Then held up until a point passing the 100m. NEVER LOSE FAITH – Bumped on jumping. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. FLICK – Bumped on jumping. JUST WISHING – After travelling a short distance passing the 1200m when caught wide, the rider elected to restrain to obtain a position closer to the rail with cover and whilst endeavouring to do so, the mare threw its head in the air. RELENTLESS MISS – Approaching the 900m commenced to over-race and resented being restrained and raced ungenerously for a few strides. ROMANTIC DAY – Approaching the 900m when racing keenly had to be restrained from the heels of RELENTLESS MISS. VANDAR LOOM – Approaching the 900m raced keenly after being crossed by runners to its outside. ROSIE ROSE – Raced three wide in a midfield position without cover throughout. Race 5 – Tradelink Bathrooms Class 4 Handicap – 1100m BOBBY AXELROD – Trainer advised that it would be their intention to ride the gelding in a handy position with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Passing the 900m had to be checked when crowded for room by YOUR OPTION which shifted in. Jockey L. Cheshire was issued with a reprimand under AR131(a). Raced three wide without cover throughout. Forced four wide approaching the home turn by FUJI FLYER which shifted out to improve. Approaching the 250m was crowded for room and had to be eased when tightened for room by FUJI FLYER which was taken out by COSSIE. MITTERE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. SHIJIN – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 900m had to be steadied when crowded for room by FUJI FLYER which shifted in. FUJI FLYER – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 300m forced wider. BEAU ARROW – Crowded for room at the start between BOBBY AXELROD and ABB ROY. YOUR OPTION – Shortly after the start was bumped by WHITEBAIT PATTIE. COSSIE – Raced wide during the early stages before striding forward to obtain a position outside the leader. After passing the 300m when placed under pressure, commenced to shift out forcing FUJI FLYER wider on the course. WHITEBAIT PATTIE – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Approaching the 200m had to be checked when tightened for room between BEAU ARROW and BOBBY AXELROD which was taken out by FUJI FLYER which was forced out by COSSIE. Jockey C. Taylor (COSSIE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift out under riding passing the 250m forcing FUJI FLYER wider on the course which in turn crowded BOBBY AXELROD which was forced out onto WHITEBAIT PATTIE which had to be checked and lost its position. Jockey C. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 29.02.20 and to expire midnight 08.03.20. Race 6 – Tradelink Plumbing C,G&E Class 2 Handicap – 1200m FUSI FOX – As the gelding has not started for over 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. After entering the home straight, commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer J. Perry was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse trialling or racing again. DEPTHS BELOW – Fractious in the gates and reared prior to the start being effected. Bumped by POTRO DURO on a number of occasions between the 250m and 150m. LUCAP – Began awkwardly and bumped RIMMSKI on jumping. Approaching the 400m improved onto the heels of FUSI FOX and had to alter course to the inside. RIMMSKI – Bumped LUCAP on jumping. POTRO DURO – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Passing the 300m was disappointed for a run to the outside of PARKO which shifted out under pressure and was then obliged to alter course back to the inside of that runner to secure clear running and in doing so bumped on a number of occasions with DEPTHS BELOW. HEKANSPLIT – Approaching the 300m was hampered and had to shift wider on the course when PARKO shifted out under pressure. PENASQUITO – Approaching the 300m was hampered and had to shift wider on the course when PARKO shifted out under pressure. PARKO – Shifted out under pressure passing the 300m. After passing the 100m was slightly inconvenienced when crowded for room whilst weakening. COMMISSIONER – When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance today, Trainer J. Smerdon explained that COMMISSIONER was having its first start for him today. The gelding has pleased him in its work leading up to todays event including performing well in a recent jump out and trial and he expected a forward showing in todays event. Stewards noted his explanation. Race 7 – Tradelink Tradies Class 5 Handicap – 1400m LETS PARTY MARTY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 200m laid in under pressure and brushed the running rail before being corrected by its rider. GRANDIOSO – Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn for a short distance. MIGHTY MOOSE – Passing the 1200m after being crossed by FANX commenced to over-race and had to be shifted wider on the course and then raced three wide without cover from that point. Lost its off hind plate in running. MYSTIC MIST – Raced three wide with cover throughout. FANX – After passing the 500m was placed under pressure and failed to respond and in the home straight proved disappointing. When asked to comment on the performance, Trainer M. Wilson advised that even though FANX raced in a forward position, he is of the opinion that FANX is better suited when allowed to lead and dictate terms. As the gelding was unable to do that today, this may have had some bearing on its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 8 – Tradelink on Show Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1800m MISHANI SCOUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rounding the home turn forced wider on the course when MISSED THE ALARM shifted out to improve. HOLBROOK - Began awkwardly. Rounding the home turn forced wider on the course when MISSED THE ALARM shifted out to improve. SAYL – Bumped between runners on jumping. Passing the 900m had to be eased after improving to the inside of the heels of TABROBANE. ROCBOLT – After being caught wide shortly after the start, was restrained towards the rear of the field to find a position closer to the rail. MISSED THE ALARM – Raced keenly in the middle stages. TABROBANE – After passing the 200m, laid out slightly when placed under pressure hampering CORSINI. CORSINI – Passing the 250m raced in restricted room to the inside of SAYL and to the outside of TABROBANE until approaching the 150m. Jockey A. Chau (HOLBROOK) was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(i) and (ii) for using the whip for more than the permitted amount prior to the 100m including consecutive.
