QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB AQUIS PARK GOLD COAST – SATURDAY, 10 APRIL 2021 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – HEAVY 10RAIL – +8M 1400M-W/POST; +3M REMAINDER PENETROMETER – 7 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – W HadleyStewards – T North, P Kennedy, A TurnerClerk of Scales – B Connell Judge – S McMahon, G AndersonVeterinarian – Dr G SilvestriSwab Attendants – K KilpatrickStarter – S Andrews, K Watson GENERAL Stewards accepted the reason for a number of riders and horses being late on course due to being delayed in traffic enroute to the track. Rider A Chau was fined $300.00 pursuant to AR218(4)(c) for using a mobile telephone in the jockey’s room without the permission of the Stewards. RACE 1: VALE TOMMY RAUDONIKIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 METRES PORTAFORTUNA – The gelding lost its off hind plate during the event. DOCTOR JACK – Beaten favourite ($1.75). Inconvenienced at the start by SUBAYAI, which shifted out. The gelding was then inclined to throw its head in the air and failed to stretch out. Raced wide without cover. Eased down in the home straight. Rider R Palmer reported that the gelding failed to stretch out throughout the event and felt awkward in its action and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. After today’s disappointing performance, trainer H Norman reported that the gelding would undergo tie-back surgery and would be spelled. Stewards advised trainer H Norman that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. NINETYNINE STEPS – The mare lost its near fore plate during the event. SUBAYAI – Hampered shortly after the start by HEATON PARK, which shifted out. RACE 2: THE WILKINSON SEAFOOD CLASS 1 HANDICAP 2200 METRES TRAVOLI – Beaten favourite ($2.30). Rider J Guthmann-Chester reported that the gelding travelled keenly through the early stages before settling well but failed to respond when placed under pressure from the 800 metres and was disappointing. Co-trainer S O’Dea could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post-race swab sample was taken for analysis. PAST TENSE – Slow to begin. Performed below market expectation. Rider B Pengelly reported that the gelding failed to handle the heavy 10 track conditions. SIR PELLIAS – Laid in in the home straight. RACE 3: PACIFIC WEST FOODS MAIDEN PLATE 1400 METRES BELUSHI – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover until passing the 800 metres before then shifting four-wide to improve around WAR REVIEW, which was giving ground. Eased down in the home straight. Rider N Callow could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SEIZETHEMOMENT – Near the 200 metres was hampered and momentarily carried wider on the track when FRAZZLED (J Adams) shifted out to improve. J Adams, rider of FRAZZLED, was reprimanded and was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. KERMAKAYA – Slow to begin. CARLIE EKCELS – Rider G Goomany reported that the filly was fractious in the barriers. RIVERKY – Eased down approaching the 400 metres and failed to finish the event. A post-race veterinary examination of RIVERKY identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. Stewards advised trainer S Kurz that RIVERKY shall not without the permission of the Stewards be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months or start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. Trainer S Kurz advised that the gelding will now be retired. WAR REVIEW – Raced wide without cover. Eased down from the 600 metres. Rider R Payne could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Stewards advised trainer B Robinson that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again due to the gelding’s poor performance. RACE 4: DAVE CHOPPER MCCAWE FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1100 METRES BAY OF DRAGONS – Slow to begin. A RIVER SOMEWHERE – Performance queried. Apprentice J Lloyd stated that his mount began well and settled in a forward position and approaching the 400 metres when racing greenly lost ground and began to lay in. Apprentice J Lloyd further added that in the home straight when improving his mount continued to lay in, contacting the rail passing the 200 metres and was then reluctant to improve to the inside of NOBLE WAR. Apprentice J Lloyd was of the opinion that the mare may be better suited with the additional of blinkers. It was noted that apprentice J Lloyd lost the use of his off side rein over the concluding stages. WINDSTREAM – Tactics queried, in particular into the reason why after beginning well the filly lost ground back through the field to settle near the rear. Rider A Allen reported that he was instructed to be positive from the barrier in an attempt to hold a forward position as the filly was slow to begin at its last start. Rider A Allen further added that after beginning well he rode his mount along however the filly did not respond and drifted back through the field to settle near the rear. Stewards noted his comments. RACE 5: KB FOOD CO COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58HANDICAP 1100 METRES VAPORIZING – Raced wide without cover. Beaten favourite ($2.30). Apprentice J Lloyd could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. The trainer’s representative advised that the gelding would now be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post-race swab sample was taken for analysis. WATCHING – Began awkwardly. NICHOLAS ADAM – Slow to begin. SHINAR – Rider P Payne reported that his saddle slipped on the home turn placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. NAKANAI – The gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race. Slow to begin. RACE 6: THE AARON WILKINSON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE1300 METRES ACCARDO – Began awkwardly. COERCED – Raced wide without cover throughout. ELLASTRA – Crowded at the start between ELOQUENTLY and CROWN LAW. LOVEISABATTLEFIELD – Near the 350 metres raced in restricted room between ACCARDO and CROWN LAW before then laying in and being awkwardly placed on the heels of CROWN LAW. Performed below market expectations. Rider A Allen reported that the filly failed to handle the heavy 10 track conditions. VIVYN – Rider G Goomany replaced rider J Guthmann-Chester as he was unable to make the allocated weight. Rider J Guthmann-Chester was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight.Laid out over the concluding stages. PRETTY POSY – Rider S Galloway replaced rider T Wolfgram as he was unable to make the allocated weight. Rider T Wolfgram was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. BAVARIAN MISS – Trainer K Schweida advised it was the intention to ride the filly in a more forward position from the wide barrier if circumstances permitted. Settled behind the leaders. RACE 7: CHEFS @ AQUIS PARK CLASS 5 PLATE 1100 METRES DEFENCE MISSILE – Raced wide without cover. MOSCINI – Overraced in the middle stages. Near the 700 metres improved onto the heels of INITIALIZE. SOPHIELLA – Near the 1000 metres was bumped by TOUJOURS L’AMOUR and shortly thereafter attempted to buck and lost considerable ground before being eased out of the event. Apprentice J Lloyd reported that after being bumped near the 1000 metres the mare attempted to buck and lost considerable ground and upon regaining its action felt awkward and as a result, he retired the mare from the event. It was noted that the saddle had shifted back on the mare during the incident. Stewards advised trainer L Kelly that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. TOUJOURS L'AMOUR – Bumped near the 1000 metres. RACE 8: THE STEPHEN SUMMERFIELD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES FORTIFIED (NZ) – Held up approaching the 400 metres before obtaining a tight run between WHAKAREWAREWA and MOCIAL CHIEF and as a result bumped with MOCIAL CHIEF. MANDEVILLE ROCKER (NZ) – Trainer B Guy was fined $200.00 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider for MANDEVILLE ROCKER by the prescribed time. Bumped at the start by RACKETEERING. Raced wide in the early and middle stages when attempting to take up a forward position. Near the 800 metres after being unable to cross to a position outside the leader, began to give ground. Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.Stewards advised trainer B Guy that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
