EMERALD 9th July, 2016

Stewards today reconvened an inquiry into the reason MISTY MONTANA and READY FOR ROYALTY fell near the 300 metres during the running of race 5. Initial evidence was taken on the day from A. Coome (HULK HENRY), Apprentice N. Vuille (GRAND HOTEL), A. Butler (PEGUNNY KID) and S. Sheargold (READY FOR ROYALTY). The inquiry was adjourned as Jockey A. Lawrence was unavailable.
On reconvening, riders who gave evidence previously reiterated their version of events and Jockey A. Lawrence provided a statement from his recollections of this incident.
After viewing the patrol film of this incident, Stewards were of the opinion that at a point approaching the 300m GRAND HOTEL commenced to lose ground and MISTY MONTANA had improved up on to the heels of GRAND HOTEL and when endeavouring to shift out to avoid the heels of that runner clipped its heels and fell dislodging its rider. Following was READY FOR ROYALTY which was unable to avoid the fallen horse and rider and subsequently fell. It was the opinion of Stewards that no carelessness or blame could be apportioned to any rider and took no further action.
