GENERAL
 
Due to jockey R Nelson being indisposed, stewards permitted riding changes as per summary. R Nelson was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to accepting any future rides.
 
Race 1: SEWER WIZARD PLUMBING CL B HANDICAP – 1194 metres
 
KIA ORA CHOICE - Slow to begin. Carried wider on the turn in the vicinity of the 1000m. Hung in severely over the concluding stages, placing its rider at a severe disadvantage
 
THAT WILL DO ME – Wide throughout.
 
OURLASTPENNY – Knuckled on jumping. Rider R Faehr reported that after knuckling on jumping and not being able to race in its customary forward position, the mare then resented the kickback and wasn’t able to finish the race off.
 
NEW KINTARO – Hung out in the early stages. Raced wide throughout and laid in over the concluding stages.
 
BONNY’S TREASURE – When questioned regarding the performance, rider C McIver reported that the filly travelled well until the 550m. When he then asked for an effort, the filly failed to respond to his urgings and then weakened noticeably. He added BONNY’S TREASURE resented the kickback in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DUAN PHONENIX – When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, trainer D Schulz stated that his mount had trained on well since its last start at Rockhampton on the 29th November and after being ridden more positively today in a suitable class and track, was expected to perform to his expectations today.
 
Race 2: MERRY XMAS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 metres
 
MUMBIDA LAD – Slow into stride. Raced greenly throughout.
 
MIA SINGA – Jumped awkwardly. Rider G Hayes reported the gelding resented the kickback throughout.
 
PUNJABI SAVITAR – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Race 3: “ON THE BIT AWARDS” FEB 8TH BM60 HANDICAP – 1000 metres
 
ALERT BY SEA – Slow to begin.
 
DIA VERNON – Rider S Wiseman reported that the after the gelding was slow to begin, it then resented the kickback and couldn’t finish its race off. She added the gelding would be better suited on grass surfaces.
 
NEED FINANCE – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: FAMILY FUN DAY OPEN HANDICAP – 850 metres
 
MORE WORLDY – Wide throughout
 
MARGOT – On jumping away was disadvantaged when the inside barrier partition made contact with the mare and was slightly slow into stride as a result.
 
ARRARAC – Prior to correct weight, rider C McIver requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether or not his mount was denied a fair start in regards to a barrier malfunction. After viewing the films, C McIver denied to make application and correct weight was declared.
 
Race 5: CLEANAWAY BM55 HANDICAP – 1517 metres
 
The start of this race was significantly delayed when QUEEN CONSORT dislodged jockey N Summers and had to be resaddled behind the barriers.
 
TONTEIN – Pulled hard in the early stages and had to be eased off heels of KALANGDOO CHROME rounding the first turn. When questioned regarding performance, rider G Hayes stated that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions and failed to respond to any of his urgings throughout.
 
IF BY CHANCE – Travelled wide in the early and middle stages
 
QUEEN CONSORT – Travelled wide throughout.
 
JET’N’WILD – Jockey M Gray stated that after being slow to begin, the mare was slow into stride and resented the kickback. He added that at no stage did the mare respond to his urgings and although it ran on fairly over the concluding stages, it didn’t quite handle the track conditions today.
