Race 1: LEN COLLINS MAIDEN PLATE 1000m RED CHEROKEE – Slow to begin, hung out over the concluding stages.PEGGY LEIGH - Began awkwardly, shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn. KAKADU PLUM – Raced wide without cover during the middle stages. SEALEGS LILY – Raced wide rounding he home turn. CLEVER GENT – Over raced in the early stages. MAJOR BO – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 2: ROBERT “TUNNA” CAIRNS HANDICAP 1000MJAI’S LUCK - Slow to begin.COCONUT BAY – When questioned regarding the poor performance , App. M. Schrapel advised that his intention was to take forward position on the filly, but due to a lack of speed in the early stages, he was unable to cross the runners to his inside and as a result was forced to race wide throughout, which he felt was the majoring contributing factor to the horses for performance. JEDDA’S GIRL – Raced wide throughout. BARNTOWN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare’s hind legs had been galloped on. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to the horse’s next start. QUATTRO FANTASTICO – Shifted in rounding the home turn. Upon returning to scale, Jockey L. Appo reported that his saddle had slipped upon jumping, inconveniencing him when trying to competitively ride out his mount. TRUST NO ONE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages affecting runners to the outside. App. C. Bayliss was reprimanded for his actions under AR.137 (a). DAIQUIRI BELLE – Inconvenienced over the concluding stages due to a runner to the inside shifting out. Race 3: PAT O’SHEA MELBOURNE CUP TOUR CLASS B HANDICAP 1200m Trainer G Banks was fined $100 under AR. 59 (1) for failing to produce the identification papers for Don’t Sioux Me. DON’T SIOUX ME – Jumped awkwardly at the start crowding runners to the inside. PLATINUM GRAY - Crowded at the start by a runner to the outside. LAKE ARGYLE – Crowded at the start by runners to the outside. CLOSE ENOUGH - Hung out and raced greenly in the early stages. PERZERO – When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer K. Waller advised Stewards that the geldings most recent start over 800 metres was in his opinion conducted over an unsuitable distance, and for that reason, he elected to start the horse in the 1200 metre event today. He added that this factor along with the fitness benefit the horse derived from its most recent run, were the major contributing factors to the horses improved performance today. . Race 4: GOONDI CUP SEPTEMBER 10 HANDICAP (BENCHMARK 65) 1200M The start of this race was delayed when MAXIMUM MERRIT upon examination by the veterinary surgeon was found to be lame in the off fore prior upon arrival at the barriers. MAXIMUM MERRIT was declared a late scratching at 3.30 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MAXIMUM MERRIT be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:19 cents in the dollar for the Win #116 cents in the dollar for place of winner #116 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #216 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4KING LUGWIG – Improved onto the heels of another runner approaching the 900m,shifted out and as a result was forced to take a wide position for the remainder of the event.VIRTUITY – Upon returning to scale Jockey S. Bayliss weighed in overweight. Jockey Bayliss was subsequently fined $100 under AR.120(b) Race 5: TALWOOD RACES AUGUST 20 BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP. 1400mDESTINY’S DESIRE – Slow to jump. TOUCAN UKELELE - Raced wide without cover in the middle stages. BOB MARKS BOY – Performed disappointingly with no tangible explanation provided by the rider.
