ALFILER – As Jockey S McGovern was to be overweight Jockey B Swaffer was permitted to substitute. Jockey S McGovern was fined $100 under AR120(b) for accepting a ride when he was to be overweight. On assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey McGovern’s recent good record in relation to the rule. The gelding which was resuming from a lengthy spell was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

DESTRUCTION – Reared as the start was effected and losing considerable ground. Trainer Mr F Wieland was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. Inclined to lay in approaching the 100 metres inconveniencing runners to its inside.

Notwithstanding this advice Ms O Cairns was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

HARRY MET SANDY – Raced wide without cover throughout.

SILVER STAR – Inclined to lay in under pressure down the home straight.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons Jockey B Swaffer and Jockey J Felix were dislodged shortly after the winning post to allow Jockey B Swaffer to be transported to hospital for further treatment and observation.
