SCRATCHINGS

Race 2 FESSUP (Dual Acceptor Race 4), Race 3 BOLD ZIP (Dual Acceptor Race 2) Race 4 IRON MASK – no rider available Race 5 BRIDEZILLA – scratched with permission of Stewards.

General:

Apprentice J Edwards was granted permission to reduce her designated riding weight by half a kilogram to 55.5 kilograms.

Jockey S Sheargold was charged and pleaded guilty to contravening AR 127 (1) (Failing to fulfil riding engagements) after dually accepting engagements in Race 4 (FESSUP & IRON MASK) and in Race 5 (GIORDANO & BRIDEZILLA). Stewards suspended the licence of Jockey S Sheargold to ride in races to commence midnight 20 November 2022 and conclude at midnight on 27 November 2022 (7 Days). In accessing penalty, Stewards considered that this was the fourth breach of this rule by Jockey Sheargold within the last month and noted that the three previous offences had attracted a monetary penalty

BUSTER BLOCK – Began awkwardly and collided with another runner shortly after the start.

TEMPO (NZ) – Slow to begin.

COCHRANE – Hung in over the final 150 metres and was held up for a clear run approaching the finish line.

Race 4: BAND 0-45 HANDICAP 1460 METRES

REBEL LAKE – Slow to begin

NOIR JACK – Eased at the 800 metres when momentarily tightened for room.

FESSUP – Jockey S Sheargold was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on the gelding in particular his decision to race forward of the remainder of the
field and apply considerable pressure to the leader PURPLE HAT (P Romeo) in the early and middle stages. Jockey Sheargold advised that FESSUP had won
its previous start at Home Hill when ridden forward in a weaker class race and in today’s event he noted that the gelding was up in class and weight carried.
He stated that when he was unable to lead the gelding refused to settle and continued to fight his efforts to steady it in the middle stages. Trainer J Caught advised that
his instructions were to ride FESSUP forward and he was not surprised that when the gelding was unable to lead that it started to compound from the 300 metres.
The explanation of Jockey S Sheargold and Trainer J Caught was noted.

Trainer C Parry (NOIR JACK) was questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding in winning in comparison to NOIR JACKS previous start at
Home Hill on 20 October 2022 (1830 metres) when it finished 6th (last) beaten 5.9 lengths. Mr Parry advised that the gelding had dropped back in class, weight
and distance in this event and that he had instructed Jockey C SPRY to ride the horse hard in the early stages of today’s race to maintain a forward position.
Mr Parry advised that he had made a gear adjustment and removed the Visors for today’s event from NOIR JACK and added a Shadow Roll.
He also stated that NOIR JACK had never won over a distance further that 1500 metres.  The explanation of Trainer C Parry was noted however he was advised
that Stewards will expect the gelding to race consistently in the future.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1460 METRES

GIORDANO – Raced disappointingly and tired over the concluding stages. Jockey S Sheargold and Trainer J Caught were questioned regarding the poor
performance. Jockey Sheargold stated that when unable to lead, he settled the gelding behind the leader at the 1200 metres however GIORDANO was off the bit and
never travelled in the run and failed to run on. GIORDANO was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and no abnormalities found.
Trainer J Caught advised that he will consider his option in relation to continuing training GIORDANO.
